So today is my tenth day of being nicotine free. Although there have been some rough patches in there for the most part it has not been too bad (I expected worse).

On yesterdays message I forgot to mention the sleepless nights. I have been averaging about 4 hours sleep a night since quitting, This does seem to be getting better.

Another symptom showed up yesterday and that is a sore throat, which is still going on today. Expected this to happen from reading things on this site.

For anyone is is thinking about quitting, read through this site. There is tons of information and knowledge is power. Understanding what might happen makes meeting it head on a lot easier.
Quit, it will all go away in time. I quit with you today!

I have been Quit for several years and I still wake up every morning and quit one day at a time.  I figure if it worked yesterday, it will work today.  Never ever get complacent in your quit!

Nice work, Quit.

Also, good to see you in the wildcard threads. BS'ing about politics or just goofing off in three word post will keep your mind occupied.

Yell if you need anything.

Thanks all for the encouragement! Day 9, roll posted (although I messed it up, sorry about that, will do better tomorrow) and feeling good.

Symptoms I have felt during my quit are:

1)   Headaches (not a ton of them, but get a good one every couple of days) – Been drinking a lot of water which seems to help.
2)   Fog – This one I would not have expected if I did not read about it here. I know we have all experienced brain farts before (forget a personÂ’s name, have something right on the tip of your tongue then it disappears, etcÂ…), this fog things gives a whole new meaning to brain farts, whole concepts that I knew like the back of my hand are now hard to grasp at times! Good thing is it all comes back a few minutes later.
3)   Cravings – This one seems to be a little weird for me, I read on here with people saying they had a huge craving on that day. For me it just seems to be one big craving that started on day one and has never ended. It is less intense on day 9 then it was on day 1, but it is still there. Best way I can explain it is it feels like my tongue is swollen, although it is not. I wonder if this has to do with the fact that from dawn to dusk I always had a dip in, whereas a lot of you seem to dip during certain activities (driving, mowing, fishing, etcÂ…), but go for hours even during the day without dipping.
4)   Irritability – My wife says she does not see it, but to be honest I am just hiding it. I find it amazing how my quitting tobacco is making everyone else so stupid! I thought I would be the only one affected.

Overall things are going well and the intensity of everything is going down. With that said, I am not going to get over confident, so today I quit.
Your symptoms are familiar. I had every one of them. Know this, on the other side you do not experience these withdrawal symptoms. On the other side you experience freedom.

It is worth the price. Quit on...one day at a time.

Hey Quit, glad you're here! I was a 30 year chewer, and quit 102 days ago. I had all those same symptoms also. the headaches only lasted about a week, tho. The fog was worst in the first 2 weeks but I still had a few "foggy" days several weeks in. you get more and more clear the further you get in your quit.

And for me, the irritability and anxiety lasts the longest of all those. In fact I had a bout of anxiety just last night. It happens during high-stress situations, I think its just that your body is learning to deal with stress without being drugged up on nicotine. But anxiety happens less and less often, and its alot less severe, the further you get into your quit.

You mentioned that you're craving all the time - have you tried any fake (non-nicotine) chew? Its another tool you can use to get thru the hard times. Some guys dont like to use it, but if it keeps you off nicotine, its definitely something you should consider, especially early in your quit.

I'm sending you a PM with my number, in case you ever need it.

Rick

Hey, Quit, yea, this shit sucks at times dont it? Remember this feeling. Remember how bad this is so you dont have to do it again.

I thankfully never got headaches, but I drank shit piles of water and lived to workout during the suck, I think that helped.

The FOG....That shit is amazing right? I remember the first 7 days I felt drunk or drugged. Sleeping like 4 to 5 hours a night, just in a daze. Thank god we did not have to make any huge life choices during the fog right?

I also chewed almost 24 hours a day, only time was when I was sleeping, even sometimes then...Yep what an asshole. I still rage, and I agree I am amazed how fucking stupid people have become. Like you I push it away until I can deal with correctly.

The craving will pass, some what, I am 49 in and I can tell you I am not thinking about chew every second, or minute or hour. I can sometime go allday without even having a crave. It does get better, brother. Day by day, they start to build faster and faster. I quit with you, today.

As with a lot of people I have been lurking in these forums for about a week and felt it was time I introduced myself.  I am 48, live in Minnesota, and have been using tobacco for about 35 years.

Last week  (Tuesday the 9th) I was searching around the internet and stumbled upon this site.  I read through a lot of the stuff posted here and decided there was no better day then that day to quit, so I threw out my can and have been nicotine free ever since.

Since that day I have been reading this site almost every day.  Today I decided to join.   I think there is a good thing going on here and I want to be part of it.
