Hi guys,

I was feeling like a dip tonight, so came on to the site to get some support. Found this link to a guy who lost 1/2 his jaw b/c of chewing tobacco: http://whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Gruen.html

I think I'll stay quit.

So grateful for this site and for all the support of my quit brothers.

Here's to a dip free 2014.
one day at a time and you will be free...

Your doing great.  You asked the question,,  it does get better right?  Answer!  Yes,  not by day 6 though or maybe even 7. It's going to be tough for a while.

Toughen up and realize you poisoned you're mind and body for years.  If you add up the days you poisoned yourself you would probably need a calculator.  The days you've not used can be added up on one hand.

Things will get better,  believe that and take it one day at a time. Break it down further of you have to.  One minute at a time.  Things started getting a lot better for me in the 40's but every quit is different.  If my half redneck self can do it you can.  You need another number let me know. Glad to be quit with you.
thanks guys for the input. got through my first weekend without a dip in 20 years. few shaky moments but i'm learning it really is all in the mind. The more i read about nicotine the more pissed off i get that i let it control me for so long.

Appreciate so much the brotherhood. I quit with you today.
Congrats on making it through that first weekend! That's a huge win!
20 years x 365 days x $4 = $29,200. Think for a minute what you could do with that much money. Now think about what you received for that money. Really think about that... What is better... A new truck or feeding an addiction? 4 or 5 trips to Hawaii or Disney for the family or tempting cancer? A new kitchen for the wife (with granite countertops and the nice appliances) or hiding in the lobby of the hotel to dip on vacation?

This weekend was probably damn hard. I can't really tell you that I remember my first weekend. But I can tell you that they get a lot better. And putting in a few weekends (and weekdays) of hell in the beginning will result in a big payday. You've already paid 30k to your addiction, and you will also be gaining time, confidence, health, and quality of life. So - it may have been a tough weekend, but it sounds like the best one you've had in a long time. This weekend belonged to you. Early on in my journey someone on ktc mentioned feeling like Andy did on shawshank redemption after breaking out of prison. Remember how he stood out in the rain with his arms up looking to heaven? Right now you are digging through the wall with that little rock hammer and are about to beat on the pipe with a big rock. You are well on your way to that moment!
Thanks Mike - great perspective! Just what i needed to spur me on tonight. Under stress and that makes me want to dip, but it just isn't worth it. choosing to quit again tonight.
Day 10! into double digits. I still wake up in the night - think my body is used to a dip before i go to sleep? Hope this will stop soon. It's good to be quit even though i think about it all the time, i'm liking being free. Plus i save about $30/week!
Nice work on 10 days! I'm not sure when I got back to where I could sleep most of the night, never been a good sleeper to begin with  yes at the start my body really wanted that before bedtime dip. Not sure when it stopped, it'll take a bit, but you will start to feel yourself returning to normal. Hang in there!
Just got through a big weekend. Was out of town, hotel room to myself and usually would dip a LOT. Then went to stay with my brother who dips and we always enjoy dipping together. But i made it through and feeling pretty damn good to get over that hurdle.

One of the things i've learned from this community is to not romanticize tobacco. I used to think how much i enjoyed dipping with my brother. But now i realize it's all a big lie in the mind, b/c of addiction to nicotine. You really do need to hate it and i'm starting to. There is nothing good about it. I'm quit today!
Yeah, I wasted lots of years on business trips locked in a room chewing away rather than enjoying the cities I traveled to. NYC, LA, Miami, Puerto Rico, Houston, you named it... And I missed it. But I can say that I shoved my face full of carcinogen and flushed tobacco spit in some of the nicest hotels in the United States. And I have not a single good memory of those trips. And all those years I thought I was the only one. Funny and sad isn't it?

The freedom and pride will escalate. Each hurdle you cross eill make you stronger. Congratulàtions.
I'm on day 60 and quit now for two months. But the last week I've had serious cravings in the evening. I've been on my own a lot working and keep thinking about it. I'm not going to cave, but hopefully this will pass.

i guess when you do something for 20 years it's going to take a while for the urge to go away. It's all psychological now, so I'm taking it a day at a time.

Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. I just thought it would get easier and it feels more like week 2 again.
First, and this is hard to believe, but life gets so much better. You are 60 days in. You poisoned yourself for how long? The last few weeks I've had these weird feelings of "I need to buy a can" or. "I should have a chew". Just weird thoughts. I wouldn't call them craves, they are easily suppressed at this point. Keep pushing forward one day at a time.

I give you my word, it gets better.

Congrats SH on making it through the weekend. Use the tools you have been provided and each coming weekend will get a little easier until you wont even think about nicotine. It wont be this coming weekend, or even the next few, but that magical one will come...I promise you. Stay focused and follow your quit plan.
Good work, bud. It IS all mental. Yes, you're physiologically addicted but it all boils down to free will. Some days are tougher than others, but the rewards of staying quit are immeasurable.
