Quote from: papabear1986I have been quit now for 60 days and I must say, I love it. The freedom from nicotine is great. I wrote an intro not long after I quit but feel the need to update what is going on with my quit.

I quit out of Fear. I developed unusual spots on my upper lip and it scared me. I had some scares before but this was different. For the first time in over 30 years, it got my attention. This shit is actually killing me. I have a wonderful family and a good life and I'm freaking poisoning my body every single day. Every dip was like playing Russian Roulette with a can.

An oral surgeon remove 5 hard areas from my lip last week and was confident that it was nothing to worry about. The pathology report will be back any day now to confirm. Chances are everything is good and I walk away with just the scare of my life. The good news....my eyes were opened to the harm I was causing myself. I am nicotine free forever. Thanks KTC.

Don't get me wrong. The fear in my heart didn't make quitting easy. I still struggled (and still do) just like everyone else. The difference for me is when I struggle I look in the mirror and see this big blue swollen lip and think "Go to Hell Cope". I have too much to live for. My advise to those of you not taking this serious.....the next dip may be the bullet in the chamber. I'm not willing to take that chance anymore. If people would REALLY BELIEVE tobacco was killing them....I mean REALLY BELIEVE it.....they would flush the shit now.

Day 60 but I haven't really proven anything yet....but I will. I Quit.
Papabear... Perfect name for your role in August. Lead us on brother. Awesome 60!
Thank you Papabear for being so open with what you have gone through recently. Such a great reminder why we are all here. Let us know when you get the all clear. You just made all our quits stronger...pretty good one days work.
Got the call this evening that it was only inflamed saliva glands. What a relief. I thank God for the scare I had, it allowed me to do research on tobacco without being biased. I discovered that it really does kill you slowly. How many of us knew that but never really BELIEVED it? The shit they put in that stuff. I am healthy and QUIT. Thanks for all the support.

You nailed it. This is why it is so troubling when someone wanders over to KTC and posts an "I'm planning to quit tmorrow" intro. You never know which will be the fatal dip or at least the dip that causes the irreversible damage. Tomorrow may never come...literally.

Outstanding work on 60 days of freedom.
Yes congrats Papabear. Your a bad ass keep on keeping on brother.
Nice brother! Very nice...
Great job. One day at a time.

Quote from: papabear1986I am quit now 7 days. A journey that is all new to me at 45 years old. 30 + years of dipping and the last 20 being a slave to it. I never found the strength to quit no matter how much I tried to convince myself it was killing me. I love life and have a wonderful family to enjoy it with. However, I had loved the dip more. Seven days ago I quit for life....to live. The addiction had consumed me and the frustration that I couldn't beat it was driving me insane. I never asked for any help because I didn't want people to know that I was controlled by a little can. I'm a grown man, successful, raised a family but couldn't beat the addiction to a can of cope.

Nine days ago I found this site. I didn't take the time to figure out how to use the site, I wanted to talk to someone right way. I jumped into the wrong forum....I went to the live chat for those that HAD QUIT. I didn't realize that, I was just looking for help. There were a couple of guys that apparently notice that I was sincere and PM'd me. I got a # there that has provided the support and directed me through this site. Guys, support from those who know what you are dealing with is priceless. Thanks KTC.
Nice job papa bear! Day 7 is great, just keep it one day at a time.

I too am 45, and dipped for almost 30 years. Today is day 118 for me, my quit started in January. I can tell you that after many failed attempts in those 30 years, KTC has made a huge difference for me.

I recommend you get involved with the site. Join the August 2013 quit group, as thats when you'll hit 100 days, so thats your group. Read this site and learn about posting roll - and then post roll every single day. This is your promise to your group to stay nicotine free for that 1 day, all day. Also use the chat room which you've already found, its a great place to meet other quitters going thru the same things you are.

I will PM you my number, use it anytime you need a little support.
And I quit with you today!

Rick
I actually have joined the August group and have been posting roll since Day 2. That is the accountability that I need, as well as accountability to the guys I meet on here. All the support is great.
Welcome aboard papa. It was great to meet you in chat on that first day. I was pleased to see that you posted up a day 1.

Welcome to the good fight man, the fight for freedom. You have my number, call or text anytime.
