Alright so it's day 2 and things are going about as good as can be expected. I mean I feel pissed off enough to punch a baby, but I haven't, so that's a positive right. Anyways, I'm stuck at law school all day in between classes (usual dipping time/place) and instead of dip, I'm going through a bag of seeds. Problem is my gums are already in pretty bad shape from 10+ years of constant dip use and the seeds feel like they're tearing them bitches up worse than the dip. Aside from quitting my bitching, anybody got any suggestions regarding (1) making these seeds more tolerable; or (2) a dip alternative not involving putting salt onto recently dip free gums

Good to have you here eblock! I'm 18 days in and my constant companion has been cinnamon flavored Trident gum. In addition to the sore gums that you mentioned, high blood pressure runs in my family. So for me, plowing through a bag of seeds that contains 1000% of my daily sodium wasn't an option.

Stay away from anything that involves you spitting if you can help it. Trident's a good option since it's sugar free and claims to help repair your teeth. Your breath is probably stinky enough as is from the 10 years of dipping. Rather than make it worse with seeds, you might as well freshen it up with gum.

I also pounded coffee and started going to the gym much more frequently. The biggest thing, which I never even thought about, was to increase my water intake. It naturally releases small amounts of endorphines and helps clear the fog (not much, but some at least). Plus, if you're probably a little bit dehydrated after spitting out buckets of saliva over a 10 year span. Time to rehydrate dude.

Check your inbox for a PM.
Mr. Skoal, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

EB62, I'm only one day ahead of you and I hear you on the seeds. I have been going with the "lots of water" advice today. Although, I've been pissing like a race horse and felt water logged most of the day, it really has helped me. I really think the water helps in flushing the nic bitch from your system. This afternoon has been the worst for me as far as "the fog" goes, but I can tell the crap is about out of my system. I also heard good things about the Hooch alternative chew, so I ordered some of that last night.

Good luck and when things get the toughest just remember how many of us are going through the same things you are. Glad to be quit with you today!

went through the same thing a year ago in my law practice after 20 years. Lots of water, sugar free bubble gum, and exercise breaks did it for me. From someone who wished he had quit during law school, instead of 15 years later, trust me - you are making a great decision to quit. You'll be surprised how fast the physical urges go away. From there, it is mental, and each time you make it through a trigger (driving, crapping, studying, watching tv, etc.) without chew will be a huge step in the right direction. A few times through each trigger for me and the trigger was no longer. Some are harder than others. This period will suck, but if you do it right you will never have to go through it again.

Day 1 in the books. Going to try to call it an early night to avoid some of the withdrawals. It's been a tough day, but as I drove home from a stressful day of law school, I passed my usual gas station stop. . It's been hard, but it feels good to be quit. Finally came clean to the fiance' and told her about the three years of hiding my dip use. She's on board, and I'm all in. I appreciate the advice all of you have given and I ask that you keep it coming. I know I'll need it. Looking forward to Day 2.
Advice for day 2, wake up, post roll, keep active whether on the site or in life, honor your word. You wrote something you are going to want to analyze for a good while. That is,

I felt an urge to pull in, but decided to continue to the grocery and buy about a dozen bags of sunflower seeds

You know what you just did? A big part of nicotine usage and some of the difficulty us addicts have in quitting is that we IMPULSIVELY dip. It requires no thought or rationale. It became subconscious to us, like pulling our hand off a burner on the stove. This is what is meant by guarding your quit. Keep an active mind in your quit and you will not fail yourself to an impulse.

Quit with you today on day 2 of your journey.

Welcome aboard man. I love to see guys in their 20's on here. It gives me quit wood. Know why? Because I started dipping when I was 15 and I quit when I was 41. There are tons of guys my age on here who could tell you the same thing. You have the opportunity RIGHT NOW to not be one of us. You started at 15 and have the opportunity to walk away at 26. Seize it. I wish I had quit when I was 26. Shit I didn't even consider it until I actually quit. It NEVER OCCURED TO ME TO QUIT UNTIL I WAS 41. You got a head start on that shit brother. Do it. Post roll everyday. It's sacred. It's the foundation this site is built upon. Lean on your brothers and get some numbers from November. There are some quit mfers in there already who can guide you. Vets are awesome but there is something special about your quit brothers. Get to know as many as you can. Start with Bigdave - he is a Titan of quit with balls the size of watermelons. Stick close to the site. READ EVERYTHING. Hang out in chat. If you see Timeless in there (you will) call him ghey. He loves it. Quit with you bro.
I have control over my quit. There's no luck involved. - Diesel2112

eblock--my advice would be to post roll..stay true to your word, stay busy as you can for this first week...sleep when you can. Wake up and do the same things over again. Use this site as a tool.

Quit one day at a time. Can't stop, won't stop attitude..bear down and beat this addiction out the frame.

You need a number or anything, PM me.

Eblock your story sounds similar to mine. I am also 26 and am engaged and getting married in November. I just don't have law school under my belt. Well I sat where you did 103 days ago and didn't have any idea how I would be able to quit. The most important thing is you have to quit for you. It sounds as though you already know this but I wanted to point it out and make sure you know that. If you stick close to this site and post roll everyday and take the help and advice that is given you will be fine. The stress is never ending especially when your fiance is on your ass with wedding planning and you don't want to deal with it. You will have good days and bad days. Come here to vent, yell at us. We are all here for the same reason. Let me know if you need anything.

Yea buddy, the stress, it doesn't go away! Nicotine doesn't make it any better, it actually makes it worse. As your quit grows, you'll find it easier and easier to deal with it. Advice...

Most importantly... head over to the Welcome Center and learn how to post roll.

then head over to the quit groups find your new quit group November'12 (that means in November you'll reach 100 days aka the hall of fame). Use the newly learned information and POST ROLL.

Also, i'll try to find some quit balls, quittin aint easy buddy, but the it's worth it. Go get you some seeds, hard candy, atomic balls, tooth picks, drink TONS of water, Cranberry juice (it's suppose to help with the withdrawls), and whatever else it takes not to put the shit in your mouth.

Check your inbox, I'm sending you my number, use it or not, reach out and get more of them. Your quit brothers will be the most important tool in your quit.

Glad to be quit with you today,
Bruce
Listen to Bruce - post roll now - read this site, use the live chat - be ready to be pissed off at yourself, at family and friends and at those of us here who will do anything we can to help you. I'm an 18 year user and am clean for 34 days, the longest time before this was one day - not because I quit but because I couldn't find a can in europe... If my weak ass can do this so can you. Post Roll and I'll quit with you
Hold up, you're gonna get pissy yes, but DO NOT take it out on loved ones, that's why we are here. Take it out on us, go to live chat too, find a dude named Klark and go off on him
Thanks for the advice. Just posted roll a few minutes ago, and I'm with you Bruce, I'll definitely take it out on y'all before I take it out on friends and family.
And Bruce likes it rough, so get on the site and let him have it.

I am at day 52 myself and it will be a wild ride so get ready.

Note: still looking for others that like it rough and can pass that along when I learn more.... :ph43r:
Indeed - use us - I meant to let you know that you will probably be a dick and be ready to snap at those you love for no reason- WATCH FOR THIS and DON'T DO IT - your suck quit is due to your use of nic. Like the guys said come give us some hell - we can take it... I quit with you today

Glad to be quit with you today,
Bruce

I am 26 years old and have been a tobacco user for over 10 years now.  I have tried to quit in the past (the longest stoppage being about 2-3 months) only to fail time and time again.  I used to think it was due to the stress of being a collegiate athlete, and I kept telling myself that once my athletic days were done that quitting would be easy because the stress to perform would be gone.  As we all know, stress tends not to go away.  Upon finishing up my athletic career, I went to law school where the stress increased.  I am still a law student starting my third and final year.  Again, I've kept lying to myself and saying that once law school and exams are over, it'll be easy to quit.  Well after law school comes life as a lawyer and all the more stress and reasons to continue dipping.

I am tired of dipping.  I know that it's terrible for me.  I am an intelligent person, so why in the world would I continue doing something that ends with me in an early grave?  Enough is enough, and today is the day that I start my quit.  I'm currently engaged to a wonderful girl.  I recently found out that I've got a great job waiting for me when I finish law school.  Things are going far too good for me to ruin my life with this addiction.

If any of you have any advice for me, please give it.  I'm all ears and looking for help.  Also, instructions regarding joining a group and how the quit process works would be incredibly helpful.

Thanks,
