Well I am sitting here, typing, feeling very tired. Just got home from a day of work at the local surf spot/beach.

That in it's self is another story.

Last night when I went to bed I am thinking "500, that's gonna be another quit day"

Well it sure as hell IS another quit day!! One that started with way more emotion than I anticipated.

Want y'all to know That I was this close to ballin'! Still am actually...

I was thinking of all the support you guys have given to me and our fellow quitters..

Knowing the strength of this support and the well of resolve behind it, makes me feel Strong!!

It was and is a good day.

Thank you all for being part of it.

PS-- I made it this far today in spite of waking up with lines from"Benny and the Jets" rolling through my head!

Wanted to pop in here and thank you again for all of your support over my past 285 days quit. YouÂ’ve been there every day.

WhatÂ’s even more important, I think, was how you and a couple of others reached out to me in my first week. IÂ’m sure to my family, I looked a lot like Linda Blair hiding in my bedroom and snapping at anything that came close to me.

Having the opportunity to vent and to ask questions was paramount to starting my path to success. I remember chatting with you about quitting, about your Native American heritage, about your battle with nicotine and your job in the oil field as a mudder.

I remember it all and need to thank you. Odds are quit good that without your help, IÂ’d be sitting here with a big nasty fatty in.

News Flash May17---
I have uncovered a devious plot.
One so hidden behind a veil of jocularity that it took several seconds to uncover.
For a fact it is being executed flawlessly by a cadre within May17.
These operatives have flooded my mailbox with brightly colored and often humorous "cards".
Included with these so called greetings are other "cards" that enable me to procure a variety of food stuffs.
It took 37 seconds of quiet concentration and reflection to realize ....these quitters are trying to fatten me up!!
To what end I have no clue, but I shudder to think of the possibilities.
Rather than let the darker implications of the whole affair control me,
I will clear the air and reveal the culprits and their leader!
These characters use "handles" like Bgbdbrd, MC, JJ, Donkey, Lowandslow, Yetisb, Brett, DeterminedJ, and UncleRico...alleged ring leader of the gang.

I declare to each and everyone of them my never ending appreciation and gratitude for their efforts.
By their actions (and indeed those of all of May17) I have become a stronger person and more effective quitter.
And before it is all said and done, I will require larger trousers!

Man I miss that Slobber-Jawed T-rex telling cancer to get fucked--every day, and
I miss that One-way arrow pointing me to Success, every day.

Both of these men had their quit ended by two very different, but equally deadly diseases.

That is why I have lately developed absolutely no tolerance for perfectly able quitters who start the downward slide to complacency and likely failure.

I want to scream at them "Don't Let the Door Hit You in the Ass on Your Way Out"

The other part of me prompts me to try and "save" them--in most cases a fruitless endeavor.

Yes this quitting is a tough job---I do not recall being told that it gets easy--just that it gets "less hard" to do.

I haven't counted the number of Phone numbers in my phone of people who do not post any more...I don't really want to know.

Only the two mentioned above actually had a REASON to stop posting.

It happens brother, I think its hard to pull someone back that's made the choice to leave, I was 100% well through 1,000 days, I miss some now and then, more than I should but after I hit 400 it's been pretty easy but I make sure I come here and don't become complacent. Even if I am not here I text with 7 other quitters every single day, today there were 50 texts back and forth, they won't let me drift.

I have a story to tell. It is about the most Bad-Ass Quitter I have ever encountered.

He never joined any support group ever...most likely he had no idea what that means.

To start --he was born at the end of the Great depression--learned how to get by.

Served in the US Navy in WWII in the Pacific ocean. Lived through being torpedoed , hell they made a damn movie about one of the ships he manned! The one with the unexploded Japanese torpedo lodged in it's hull!

He became a Fireman and put in26 years at that job. At the same time was a tile contractor on his days off from the Fire dept. After the Fireman job he went to work building houses.. I enter the scene and he teaches me what to do and how to do it as far as building is concerned. He retired from that to become the local handy man...he worked!!

Did I mention he had become a nicotine addict --compliments of the US Military and big tobacco--they handed out cigs to the men fighting the battles.

He had a family.. wife and 3 kids...He out lived one of them -- He did not like that..but he never went on about it.

That is pretty much the Bio side of this account. What I want you to take away from this long winded account is the Magnitude of Quit this man executed ON HIS OWN...that's right --all by his lonesome!!

At the end of the war his use of the poison continued-- Increased and expanded to Chew. Flash forward 40+ years...
I was in and out of the area where he lived-so I wasn't always up to speed. In 1976 I noticed he was still chewing and/or dipping. I sure was also all over that shit myself, just having started dipping at age 27!!
Flash forward 5 years+/- . I see him again...no nic anywhere...You can bet I sure as hell had some..I offered a dip and he says No thanks I quit. I was amazed.

I see him several times over the following years and he is still quit.
More time passes --I am totally dedicated to the Nic , and I go to see him again..
I watched him stand up from the dinner table and as he did he popped the bottom of his shirt pocket to get that can..that was not there, and had not been there for 35+ years!! He looked at me and asked If I had seen him do that ...I had. He shook his head as he let go a few expletives, and walked outside.

I follwed him outside. I asked him"How in the hell did you manage to quit the dip?"

He thought about it for a minute-then he said "I just Stopped putting that shit in my mouth"
I was pretty much dumb struck..too damn simple! I couldn't fathom that then or now.

Well to wrap things up-- later on he never forgot he was quit--even though his Dementia made him forget just about everything else. He managed to stay quit more than 40 years just by force of will.

One other factoid for you to mull over--- He was born on MAY17.
