Just scrolled through the responses below....not going to add anything new other than my vote of confidence in the advice below. Quit is Quit....anything else is kidding yourself....there is nothing easy about it. Face the music, man-up and QUIT. Your choice. We will support you if you decide to QUIT.

Well, the words out my friend. QUITTING seems to be the only answer your going to get around here. Over 17,000 quitters have walked these halls and your going to probably get the same answer from just about all of them.

Maybe if you check some more quitting sites they will give you different answer. Maybe if you read some self help quitting books there will be some more answers available.

Bottom line, You can try this, that and the other. You can talk about, wish and want. You can search high, low and a far. OR,, YOU CAN JUST QUIT!!!! POST ROLL AND LETS DO THIS. WE GOT YOUR BACK.

The poison sucks. I hate it. I hated it this morning, I hated it at noon, I hated it at supper and I hate it tonight. I enjoy hating it so much I'm going to wake up tomorrow and start over hating it. I quit with anyone that wants to hate it with me.

I think nicotine replacement is a shitty idea. Quitting is what works. One day at a time. Posting your promise to yourself and a huge connected and loyal group of addicts that you won't use nicotine in any form works.

If you were an alcoholic would you quit by switching from Smirnoff to coors?

If you were an addict of painkillers, would you quit Vicodin by switching to Percocet?

Nicotine is crazy addictive. It's Friday. Throw out your stash, post your promise, and enjoy the ride. You only quit once. Make the best of it. Life is too short to be a slave.

What are everybody's thoughts on nicotine replacement therapy (gum) to help quit chewing. I chewed kodiak/grizzy for 27 years--as much as a can and a half in the later years.  Then I quit for 18 months.  I used the gum and it seemed to help.

The I started again.  I am now on the verge of quitting again (at least I know I can do it this time).  Any thoughts on why not to use the gum as an aid?
You never Quit

Chewing, smoking, snus, nicotine gum, nicotine lozenges, etc are all delivery methods for the same drug.

Your addicted to nicotine....

You can change your delivery method all day long, but your still hooked.

90% of all successful long term quits are cold turkey- American cancer society.

People are successful in spite of the NRT, not because of it. Their quits would most likely have been far easier without NRT.

There is NOT ANY studies involving nicotine gum and quitting dipping that I am aware of.

Using the gum will keep you in a state of slow withdrawl for months, quitting cold the nicotine is out of your system in days and you begin healing.

Long story short- nic replacement therapy is a fucking sham.

My credentials in case you assume I am full of shit-

dipped 23 years, 2 cans a day for the last 10.

Used nicotine gum once for almost a year.

Used the patch as directed twice.

Quit in 09 when I found this place ( cold turkey)

been on this site and watched over 11,000 members pass by.

It's time to face the music PJ, the only way out is straight thru the fire, but the difficulty is mostly imaginary. If we can do it so can you.

sM
Don Imus 'quit' smoking almost 30 years ago. He 'quit' with nic-gum.

He still chews it constantly to this very day.

The foundation of KTC has been laid down for pretty well. All I'll add is that by waiting or using NRT's you are cheating yourself. Dig deep and find the quitter inside you today!

Why be on the verge. Quit cold turkey, make sure that it is hard as hell as well as gut wrenching. This way when you quit you will remember how hard it was in lieu of just running back to the nic bitch because she is easy to leave behind.

It is kind of like dating that crazy chick, the sex is great, but she is just insane. You can't introduce her to your friends, mom would not approve and she causes you to spend all your money.

My advice is take this seriously, quit like a man and flush you stash and forget about the replacement nicotine or weening off the tit.
"If you want to quit then stop talking and just QUIT. If you want to kill yourself a bullet is cheaper and faster than a tin, plus it eliminates my hearing you whine and cry like a bitch."

My thoughts on Nicotine Replacements? You are not serious about quitting!! Get off that crap... Been dipping 22 years day and night and been there and done that with all the nicotine replacement bullshit!! Makes me angry!! I know you are trying and that is great but listen to me..Get off that crap and stay away from all forms of nicotine and find your strenghth here with your fellow brothers. You will always be a slave to nictotine if you don't stop and the nic bitch will always have you wrapped around her little finger. Only you can decide but I hope one day you understand. Good Luck to You!!

I, like you once wondered how in the world i was ever going to quit. I tried this, that and the other. I was at my wits end with this addiction. Now, I'm 8 days from 1 year of quit. Can't believe it to this day.  I'm happier than ever.

If you really want to quit you've come to the right place. I'm going to tell you exactly how it's done.

You trash your stash, post roll with us and just quit. I know,, your thinking what? Right now your believing a lie. Your believing a lie that the poison has you believing. Your not addicted to a can. Your addicted to nicotine. Nicotine is the route of all your troubles. You can do this, you just have to trust it's possible. We are here for you. This site is here for you. After posting roll you will begin meeting people that are in this fight with you. We know what you will go through.

Begin reading the information on this site. Begin filling your head with the truth. Read hof speeches. Read words of wisdom. Read everything you can on nicotine/addiction. Learn your enemy, it knows you.

Start at welcome center, top left. Learn how and why we post roll. Pay particular attention to why. It's your move my friend. You can do this, you just have to start believing. No more lies bro. You really want this,, You got to take it. One day at a time my friend. 1000's have used this site to quit. If we can do it you can.

his site can help you kick your nicotine addiction (not a habit) to the curb. We don't use words like try or hope as they are just another excuse for our addictive brains to tell us another lie. There are no short cuts, but here are some links that will help you navigate this site.

This a NO NICOTINE site. End of discussion. Why this Site Works

Best thing to do is get familiar with this site and start building your quit defense.
Pjn, I struggled with nicotine gum, as well as dipping and at previous times smoking. What is the common denominator? Nicotine. Plain and simple. You aren't freeing yourself from the addiction by substituting one form for another.

I was scared to let go of the nicotine gum when I first began my quit. I wasn't using any, but like an addict, I was too scared to let go completely at first. Trust me on this...let go completely. Drink the KTC Kool-Aide. I'm going to bump my Intro thread so you can read the beginning of it. I'm not trying to promote my self...I'm trying to show you that others have been scared and felt like they needed that nicotine gum crutch. That is another lie that our addicted brain feeds us. Please listen to the vets on this site, they will help save your life.

Bumping my intro for you...(that I'm not proud of, btw)
