Well on my way to completing day 2 . . and it has been much easier than Day 1. Day 1 I wake up without a dip and it was a long, brutal day. Full of blurred vision, stomach cramps, rough time in the bathroom, stiff neck, chills (like a fever) where I couldn't get warm, all the way to stinking in my sweat as I had a restless night.

Day 2 isn't as bad. Cravings coming and going.

Maybe Day 3 will be more like Day 2 than Day 1.

Thanks errbody.

I only have 8 days so I'll defer to the vets but I think the last thing you need to be thinking about is Day 1000. You have your hands full with Day 1 - just as I had a week ago. There's no way you could fight the cravings you are feeling every day for the rest of your life. The point is that these cravings aren't going to be there every day for the rest of your life. They're here for like the next 48 hours or so. Then they start to taper off. I was the same way with that morning dip. The first few days were awful. By day 4 or 5, it had declined to the point where I was like "ah, it's not even strong enough to motivate me to get in the car and go to 7-11.

Keep it up and pm me if you think it would be good to know another newbie...
I'd agree with LA Kevin that you shouldn't be looking to 1,000.

Take it one day at a time until you've got some mileage under your quit belt.

If you want to look forward, this will give you a good understanding of your first 100 days.

Thanks man.

So it's still on your mind 1000 days after the fact? That's pretty scary.

I'm missing my morning dip as we speak!
I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that there WILL be a day where you don't even think about dip.

You won't miss it.
You won't crave it.
You won't think about it.

You'll be free.

You're on the way friend... welcome to the rest of your life.

Hey bud, glad you're here!!! Whatever you do DO NOT take it out on the fam!!! Come here and bitch and rage at us, we can take it! Remember, your family most likely didn't force you to start dipping, you did this to yourself. They don't deserve your rage. Sorry to be blunt, but thinking about this really helped me when.i wanted to blow up at my fam. Glad to quit with ya, and feel free to pm me if you need anything.
I completely agree . . easier said than done. I get really irritable when I "need" a dip . . and now I'm going to be in "need" mode util . . until whenever.

So not only do you need the willpower to quit, you have to have the strength to moderate your emotions and tongue and not hurt the ones around you.

I am turning 44 next Monday and I'm on day 5. I was where you were a year ago and wanted to quit then. Don't let the crap take another year from you.

I'll read around. I'm pretty good at suffering. I'm a half miserable person.

What I worry about is how I'll treat my family and my coworkers . .

I was 44 when I quit in April last year, with a 17 year dip anchor around my neck, and I am here 277 days later nicotine free and thankful to the men and women of this site. Do you need a phone number to text or call for these critical 3-4 days? Just ask or use the PM system and you'll get it, without the support of others texting I would be on year 18 today.

It sounds weird, but it could save your life.
Some of my fondest and clearest memories are peeing in places that aren't bathrooms.

I really want to stop. I've signed up in roll call. I'm looking forward to seeing how this works.
You nailed one of those three sentences perfectly, so allow me to help you with the other two.

We don't stop here. We quit. There's a huge difference. There is only one way to quit, and that is one day at a time.

There's not much to look forward to initially, but the reward of freedom is absolutely worth it regardless. As long as you keep posting roll and remain a man of your word, you will Quit and you will be successful.

Welcome.

It is work but man is it freedom to quit.

I'm over 1,000 days. Never thought I could make it that far but I did and am still quit. Its going to suck. Embrace it and quit every day you wake!

One day at a time, that's how we quit here. So I quit with you today. Break it down. Quit til lunch, quit til lunch is over, quit til work is over, pretty soon day one is over. Stay away from the stuff and those that use it. Throw all cans of the stuff away and get on this site and read when you can. Let's do it!

Just turned 43 . . I need to stop
« on: January 05, 2015, 04:13:00 AM »
I'd browsed and registered before today . . I don't know, a few weeks back, but chickened out.

I probably got hooked out of boredom some 16 years ago during a long commute. Started with chewing tobacco and moved to dip.

I dip on the way in to work, sneak out at lunch and cram a couple in, and then dip as soon as I'm out of work. Usually I make it to lunch fine, but by the end of the day I'm jonesing.

I avoid going out to lunch with colleagues because I want my damn dip.

I do it in front of my son--he's 14 and showing no signs of taking it up but I suck as a father and I would like to stop right now.

I don't want to die prematurely.

I really want to stop. I've signed up in roll call. I'm looking forward to seeing how this works.

My drug of choice: Copenhagen Long Cut . . buy it in a roll (5 cans). Usually lasts me over a week. But it has a hold over me. I can't believe I put myself in this situation.
