Interesting read. They've actually isolated the chemical which causes malignant tumours in animal cells, which is a new development since up until now, they knew the use of smokeless caused cancer, but they didn't really understand via which mechanism or chemical process.

Just thought it would be a good read for the nerdier types, or anyone looking for more stay-quit ammunition.

Allright, allright...  you Nic Nazi's are right.  Its just that I cant tell you guys how NON ADDICTED I am to cigars.  But saying that...  sounds kinda stupid that I even care about one.  So, since I dont store or have any, I just wont pick them up this time...

I will however being picking up my customary 18 pack of Bud Light Lime.  18 pack, 18 holes...  coincidence?  I think not.   'na na'
Please indulge this "Nic Nazi" as you put it and allow me to respond.

The fact that you're rationalizing this by screaming (in a figurative sense) how much you're not addicted to cigars, tells me everything I need to know. You're addicted to cigars.

But don't take it personally... so am I. I haven't had a dip in nearly 2,100 days. Could I conceivably have "just one" cigar while I golf and continue about my way? Sure... I probably could. But that's an incredibly stupid slippery slope to go down... so I don't. And won't... ever.

I've seen countless instances of folks using this line of thinking. It goes like this.

YEAH... I'm quit. This is AWESOME. Fuck nicotine... I'm never going back.

A few weeks later...

Ah... I'm going golfing/fishing/camping (insert activity here) with my buddies. I've always had a cigar in the past. But I quit dipping... but a cigar isn't dipping. I was a DIP addict. One or two cigars a year means I wasn't addicted to cigars... I'll be just fine.

A few weeks later...

Man... that cigar was fucking awesome. But I was able to have just one and that didn't turn into more than one. I'm sure I could just have one dip and be just fine.

A few weeks, moths, years, later...

Chewie you made a good point. I too used to enjoy a few cigars a year. I havent had one in longer then I can remember. Through your post I can see how easy it would be to rationalize that one dip. But the main reason I'm replying is "HEIL QUITLER" Thats awesome.
Blew a twelve year quit to hell exactly as you described it. If it's nicotine leave it alone...period.

When I quit I pondered the same thing. I usually had a cigar or two and vacation no more than 4 a year. My wife even asked early on about cigars and was a little shocked when I said I'll never smoke one again. As my quit grew stronger and I was actually honest with myself, I looked back on my years of dipping something hit me. I would pause or take a break some years for lent, it always started with one cigar on Friday, then one Friday and Saturday and then sometimes two a night by the end. I am addict what ever the delivery I can not have it anymore. Hopefully you didn't do it.

Drinking that much while playing golf for the first time quit is a bad idea. No one has ever drank 18 beers and then made smart rational decisions.
Don't know what you're talking about. I drank at least that much before I proposed to my wife. Fuck.....never mind.

Okay boys, question.  And I already know I'm gunna get screamed at by the purists.  :D  But, can I have a cigar once in awhile?

First of all...  I am NOT addicted to cigars.  In fact I've never smoked cigs and cant STAND smoking.  I will NEVER be a smoker, no way, no how.  But on occasion, like maybe once a month, I will enjoy a cigar, with a glass of port after a good meal, with friends around the fire pit or like today, playing golf.

I'm good with my dip quit, have a fresh can of smokey mountain mint chew, which I love...  all's good.  But it would be nice to have one cigar today.  Go or no go?
Loppy,

Smoking a cigar is considered a cave. Cigars have nicotine, which you ARE addicted too. Based on the law of addiction once you put nicotine in your system one time it will lead to 1). becoming a using addict again or 2). go through day 1-4 nicotine withdrawls again.

In my opinion, no longer being a slave to nicotine is worth giving up the occational stoogie.

And any way you said you "can't STAND smoking". Trust me, you will not miss it as much as you think you will.
Nicotine is nicotine no matter in what form it is ingested!
What is the point of quitting one form, if you use another?
The addiction continues . . . .

Hi Rambo.

Sorry bud, but we don't 'patch' here. This is a strict 100% cold turkey site.

With the patch, you've just changed the delivery method. You haven't Quit yet.

Why don't you tear that patch off, flush your hidden stash, or your trophy can, and try it our way?

From the discussion that is going on in here right now, I can promise you this: if you want to BE Quit, we have a 100% success rate.

Jump in tits deep my friend, and drink the kool aid.

If you need help, or have questions, we're here to provide support like you've never had, but you gotta be 100% nicotine free to get it.
Listen up,

Patch is for covering something up, or a temporary mending. (not fixing)

Rip it off, uncover the wound, let it air out.
