Life............It is just too short.

As I age, as I grow smarter, as I experience more - I realize how true those things are.

I learned something very sad and disturbing today.

A man I have worked with...Not "a man"...More like " a guy"...Oh, he was full grown. He had a wife. He had 3 kids. He was a good guy. He was younger than so many of us.

He was from Houston. He came to Denver so I could train him in operations. We spent time together and got to know each other.

He was a man. He was a guy. He was a friend.

He is dead today.

This bothers me very much.
Due to work and activities, I have been able to push this tragic fact to the back of my mind for most of the day and night. Alone now, I have time to reflect.

I wish I didn't.

I don't know where to post this. I don't know how many will read it or care. I guess I just need to say my piece.

My friend is dead. He died of kidney failure. It was not expected. It caught everyone unaware. As I said, he had a wife and 3 kids...3 kids....That brings tears to my eyes and chokes me up.

He didn't smoke, drink, or dip. He drank iced tea and loved his family....

We all were poisoning ourselves for years, yet here we are. Alive to read this.

We've all heard it many, many times. Life is too short.

We've been messing with karma for too long, yet still we are here and mostly fine...

Stop messing with karma. If you are reading this, you are hopefully quit. If you aren't quit - do it now.

My friends death has nothing to do with dipping, but it brings so many important things to the fore front...

Priorities...Sometimes it takes terrible things to make you see what they really are. You are the priority. Take care of yourself so your family and friends don't suffer.

I don't want to lose any more friends. So, so, many of you mean so much to me. I couldn't stand to lose you.

"A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion."

A Quit Plan: Do you have one?

CLOSE THE DOOR. In my opinion, it?s the single most important step in your final quit. There is one moment, THE moment, when you finally let go and surrender to the quit.
After that moment, no temptation will be great enough, no lie persuasive enough to make you commit suicide by using tobacco. SportDad 1/13/05

Let's get with it "Guests". No better day than today to quit, why put it off? You know that you want to, you know you should...................and you should know you have to, if you want to live...............how many years have you spent living on borrowed time owned by Ol' Queen Nicotine? Any number is too many. Walk away from tobacco today. Be done, be finished, be through, be FREE. B)

chewie's tip of the day

Remember that you have control over your decisions. It's up to you whether or not you dip. You can do it, no matter how long you've been a dipper. Quit!

A friend of mine ;) quit dip and passed the nic test on day ten. He tells me that drinking 2 quarts of real cranberry juice 75% pure or better the day before, will detox the body and mask the nicotine :P . His agent only asked if he was a smoker.

He is a close friend and is still nic free.

Anybody know how long nicotine can be detected in the blood?  I've heard 3 months, I've heard up to a year.  Anybody have an official answer?
I'm not sure Russ, I think I heard Chewie or someone say you have to be nicotine free for 6 months for insurance purposes otherwise you can not claim to be a non-chewer/smoker. I'm not sure if I got the time frame right or not.

I bet he or one of the other old timers will give you a definate answer on Monday.
We just re-did our Life Insurance  you are right, JJ - they said I had to be nic-free for 6 months  wouldn't re-test me for a year. They officially claim it takes 5-6 months to leave the bloodstream  my agent says (unofficially) it takes anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months, depending on how much was in your system to begin with. Once I test nic-free, they have to test me for the next 2 years to make sure I can continue to qualify for the non-nic discount.

Get this, too - when my agent first questioned us I told him (proudly) that I was a non-smoker. Knowing damn-well that they would test me for nicotine, I said nothing  when the results came in I blamed the agent for not asking me if I chewed!!!!!! I'm such a silly little addict! 'embarrassed'

That's funny. I always enjoyed being able to be HONEST with my wife, when I came home from a night out...dipping all night....and being able to answer "NO!", when she asked if I smoked.....

Thanks for the info guys! I'll definitely wait it out.
