I am a 46 year old guy who has dipped on and off for 25 years -- started when I played ball and wrestled and then continued while in the Army. I used to be able to go long (weeks or even months) periods without dipping and them dip every day when in the field or deployed without a problem. My real problem happened after my last overseas deployment in the stan .... when I came home I could not quit. Really, I did not want to especially after leaving the Army. The dip seems like my connection to my former life that seems so distant and different than the reality of the real world. I have justified my dipping to be my connection to my past, to my brothers who are still in the fight etc. etc. Reading the stories on your site makes me realize the truth ... I am an addict to this stuff and I must stop. So, I am planning my break -- I would like to try some non tobacco alternative and perhaps mix it with my drug of choice (skoal cherry) ... I tried Smokey Mountain several years back and it did not do it for me. I have always wished that somebody could just make something with the same taste and feel .... that would sure be nice. A friend has suggested nicorete .... I would really like to hear advice from people who have succeeded in this challenge. Thanks very much. 'help'
MattW,
44 years old- dipped for 33 years...The bad news: there is no way around going through nicotine withdrawal: You can certainly delay it...or prolong it...but sooner or later you have to go through it to quit...That is why we are a cold turkey site. I threw all my dip in the garbage back on Feb 13...ordered in some hooch herbal snuff (the cherry does taste like cherry skoal to me) Posted roll here and quit one day at a time.

Gotta quit using nicotine, not just dipping. Sucking on a heroine lollipop ain't going to help you quit heroine, and chewing nic gum ain't going to help you quit nic. The step down method makes a lot of sense... To addicts that are still using. Quitting is scary, and nic gum, patches, or cutting your dip with sawdust is a safety blanket.
I liked smokey mountain. Maybe it is because it took me a couple weeks to find it and ANYTHING remotely similar to dip was a welcome relief, I don't know. I gave some to a friend that dips to see if I could give him that nudge, and he hated it.
That's neither here nor there until you're quit. Flush your tin, and your secret tin, and your emergency tin, and your secret emergency tin. Post roll (our promise not to use nic for the day), and keep your word. Click on the pink "welcome center" above for instructions and the rational behind this place.
I quit 210 days ago almost to the second. I couldnt have done it without this site or the fine collection of assholes (and some ass pirates) that call KTC home.
Time to man up, Matt. What's it going to be: slavery or freedom.
