I have selected tomorrow, 9/11/14 as my quit day mainly because it has sentimental meaning to me. I did have a quick question for the group. Has anyone tried any of the nicorette products to ease the cravings from stopping dip? I understand its labeled as a quit smoking aid but thought I would ask.
Thanks,
Justin
So, I actually had a negative experience with nicotine gum. I had quit dipping for about 2 months or so cold turkey. 7-11 (convenience store) had clearance on the gum like 95% off and I was like..."Hey! This helps people quit smoking, maybe it will satisfy my craving for dip." (which was really just an excuse to get some nicotine in me again) I ended up going back to dipping for another 4 months after the cheap gum ran out. So, yeah.... best way is to get off the nicotine.
If there is a "quit aid" - be it a prescription drug or OTC patch, pill, gum, acupuncture, yoga, you name it - I tried it over my 26 years of active use.
Truth is, none of that shit actually works for the vast majority of people. Nic replacement products don't get you off the nic, they just prolong the symptoms of withdrawl. I get in arguments with my wife all the time - she is in "pain management" and has legalized drug addicts under her care. She is all about "bringing people down slowly so they don't withdraw".
the difference with nic is this is a couple day process at best for you to get this poison out of your system. Then you get to rewire yourself to do battle successfully with your addiction.
Nothing worthwhile is easy and quitting is probably the single most worthwhile thing you can do for yourself.
