I have selected tomorrow, 9/11/14 as my quit day mainly because it has sentimental meaning to me. I did have a quick question for the group. Has anyone tried any of the nicorette products to ease the cravings from stopping dip? I understand its labeled as a quit smoking aid but thought I would ask.

Thanks,
Justin
So, I actually had a negative experience with nicotine gum. I had quit dipping for about 2 months or so cold turkey. 7-11 (convenience store) had clearance on the gum like 95% off and I was like..."Hey! This helps people quit smoking, maybe it will satisfy my craving for dip." (which was really just an excuse to get some nicotine in me again) I ended up going back to dipping for another 4 months after the cheap gum ran out. So, yeah.... best way is to get off the nicotine.
If there is a "quit aid" - be it a prescription drug or OTC patch, pill, gum, acupuncture, yoga, you name it - I tried it over my 26 years of active use.

Truth is, none of that shit actually works for the vast majority of people. Nic replacement products don't get you off the nic, they just prolong the symptoms of withdrawl. I get in arguments with my wife all the time - she is in "pain management" and has legalized drug addicts under her care. She is all about "bringing people down slowly so they don't withdraw".

the difference with nic is this is a couple day process at best for you to get this poison out of your system. Then you get to rewire yourself to do battle successfully with your addiction.

Nothing worthwhile is easy and quitting is probably the single most worthwhile thing you can do for yourself.

Jump in - plenty of support here.....and you will need support.
Nicotine gum is a broken crutch.
During a period of time I used both nicotine gum and chew at the same time. I would use nicotine gum around my wife and then chew in my car.
I was limping to one nicotine fix to the other. Cold turkey is the way to go, buy some herbal chew, or seeds and bite a spoon it will be tough but you got it.

day 6 of my quit. Everything is going pretty well but I'm worried about what feels like something is stuck in my throat. Only on the left side of my throat right around my adams apple. Its been there a few weeks on and off. Has anyone had something similar? My anxiety I'm sure isn't helping so I made a doctors appt in 1.5 weeks.
Almost everyone here has had something similar. Anxiety, too. Hell, 4 1/2 years after Quitting, I was freaking out just a couple of months ago about a doctor's visit. All for nothing.

Your body is going to have to heal. That may take a while, and will manifest itself in many forms. Sore throat, sore jaw, insomnia, constipation, all kinds of things.

I've seen you posted roll today, awesome. Now pull up a chair and get to reading.

Start here, in our Welcome Center.

Welcome. Best decision you ever make. Reach out if you need help.
Thanks for the info, you can read the symptoms of quitting a hundred times but it's still scary to go through them.

I'm going through some fucking hell over here man...... 10/11 year dip/chewer......roughly 4 days in clean..... It's like I don't know what the fuck to do with myself.... physical withdrawal is bad enough early on with all the burning/shooting pain everywhere....then afterwords continual psychological battle that can pretty much last indefinitely...... that oh just "one" dip/chaw etc I can handle it etc....fucking driving me crazy....
Hang in there JR. I know you threw this up last night, I hope you make if back here today. Drink tons of water. Chew on anything you can get you hands on - straws, toothpicks, matchsticks, popsicles - get some non-nic gum, mints - What ever you can. Work out. Run. Swim. Bike. Get your body moving. Get on here and read, read, read, read, read. All of these things will help keep you distracted from the craves.

For the record, I know exactly that feeling you're having. I had it too. I couldn't even see straight early on. I was worthless for the first 250 days or so. That feeling is your body throwing a temper tantrum. It will pass.

Get in your Dec group, and start posting roll. Stick around. We can help.
What is your major malfunction?!?!?!?!

Thank you. You've done a great job.
I need some help, this post makes me realize that I truly do have something wrong in my settings. I mentioned before that the site didn't look very good to me anymore. I still don't have any graphics or banner when I log on. What I see is so plain. Always viewing site on iphone.
Hmm... what are you seeing? Can you take screenshot and post it?

Here's what the forums are "supposed" to look like currently:

And here's what things look like on a mobile device: http://www.killthecan.org/?attachment_id=8292
Make sure your theme is set to killthecan.org at the bottom of forum index.
I'll bet that's the ticket.
I believe that 30's right, but when I change the theme to killthecan from zeta original I get the following error:

Not Found
The requested URL /topic/1010972/55/ was not found on this server.

I guess I'm not sharp enough to copy the screen (two damn old) but what I see is just simple blue and orange solid headings, very plain. I've been seeing this since the middle of July and sick of orange and blue.
You have the Iphone, go to settings, select safari, clear history, then clear cookies and data, after that go all the way to the bottom and click advanced, then click website data, go all the way to the bottom and click remove all website data. You will need to log back in. But that should clear your error problems.
Thanks Matt, that did it. I've been putting up with that since mind July. Looks sooooo much better!!!
