Hey Leeroy --

I see a lot of back and forth from you on this intro page but NADA / ZILCH / NOTHING on your group page as far as posting roll. Promising to stay Nicotine free and posting that on roll EVERYDAY is the "Price of Admission" here --where the TRUE BAQs are separated from the trollers.

So in case you have not figured it out YOU are in the March Group (as per your quit date) so POST ROLL with your group. If you are NOT serious about quitting then find another site to bitch and moan on. THIS site is for QUITTERS!

I am nearing a year, and my mouth has healed pretty well. I do have less tissue on my left side lower, where I always had that piece of shit in my mouth, but otherwise my tongue and gums are doing really well.

Post Roll. It is an area where you are with people that are going through the same things you are, at the same time.

Every Damn Day. It is your promise to others, AND YOURSELF that you will not dip that day.

Addict. You are, and we are addicts and need the constant reminder that this is not something that goes away.
To remain quit requires focus

Thanks man and Roll Tide!

I have a question for you multi-year quitters... my lip where I dipped for so long seems to be a little thinner than my non-dip cheek. I can feel my facial artery with my tongue and I think I have a basic “dippers pocket”.

Did you guys dip enough to get these symptoms? Did they heal over time?

FYI Dr and dentists have cleared me of problems for now THANK GOD.

Pky, I think itÂ’s cool that youÂ’re an actual person replying to my real person post. This is a good place:)

Sorry, I should have known that introduction was a “hi I’m new tool”. I got such a fast response last time that I just used the same method of posting.

ItÂ’s great to hear that SM is ok with everyone. I did my own research and itÂ’s basically in the same category as beef jerky dip.

I get flashes of wanting a dip, it was my best friend for 14 years. But still, the fear factor keeps me from even being tempted to buy or pinch again. I agree, if I got one dip, IÂ’d get 1,000 more.

As far as roll goes, I apologize for not posting thatvgear. I am however posting with two other quitters on a daily basis so IÂ’m definitely keeping myself in check.

Thanks for being there!

I am 17 days quit, cold turkey after 14 years of dipping. The first 72 hours were hell, like a drug addiction coming off some strong stuff.

Now itÂ’s just flashes of cravings and irritability.

I bought some Smokey mountain snuff (grape) and put it in the opposite side of my mouth as I used to dip.

My mouth has pretty much healed 100% from the torture I put it through.

What are your opinions on Smokey mountain snuff as a bandaid?

Has anyone heard anything bad about it?
Hey man, I combined this post with your earlier intro. Only one Intro topic per member to keep it simple.

Smokey Mountain and other "fake dip" options are a popular and accepted tool to help you manage your Quit. As long as it's tobacco/ nicotine free, it's considered kosher around here. Most people rely heavily on it early on and phase it out as they progress.

I used it for around 80 days or so and haven't felt the need since. Some guys are several years into their Quits and still keep an emergency can of SM around.

In terms of potential damage, there's no comparison with the carcinogens found in tobacco products. It also obviously lacks the addictive properties, so after a little time, you most likely won't be using as heavily or as often. The only issue with it is the sugar they use to cure/ flavor it. That can still cause some staining and tooth decay, but proper dental care will help prevent that. My advice is to use it if it's helping you stay off of the real stuff, because just one pinch can put you right back to square one.

I will say that I'm disappointed to see that you haven't posted roll with a group here. That accountability is the heart and soul of this site, and it's generally considered to be the price of admission for support here. This would be your group: topic/30404396/300/#new. It's never too late to sign on!

Leeroy,

Congratulations on quitting.

I would second what pky1520 said. Joining this group, posting roll call and having folks to reach out to in times of crisis really saved me. I tried quitting numerous times over my 40-year dip history.

I finally and miraculously quit with the help of KTC.

My advice:

The main way to be successful is to just decide that you have quit. Once you stop the negotiating in your head as to whether you will do one more or not the rest becomes far more simple.

Next, you will learn to distract your attention from your desire for a dip to anything else that interests you. This ability to change your focus will guarantee your success and make your quit that much easier.

When you place a dip in your mouth, your brain releases sugars. Well, those sugars are now going to be gone.

However, you can replace them with OJ or other fruit juices with sugar. This will provide some comfort, especially in your initial quit days.

Make sure to exercise with weights and cardio when you feel that nagging tension in your muscles, you feel that rage, when you can not sleep and when you can not focus. Exercise really helps.

Here is one that most people overlook. Get at least 3 square meals a day. Hunger can really bring on those urges so squash those urges before they come. Eat full healthy meals and do not let yourself get excessively hungry. You will see this helps a great deal.

I waited until I was 59 quit after using tobacco for 40 years. You are wise to quit now.

I quit with you today.

Hey Leeroy, enjoyed reading your intro and glad to see you quit!

I want to encourage you to check out the Quit Groups on this site and to consider posting Roll with your group.

As you said, itÂ’s important to know what to expect, so let me tell you that there is still a long road ahead. Over the next few weeks, months and even longer, you will go through several distinct and uniquely challenging situations that can range from a deep sense of emotional loss, physical cravings, anxiety, complacency and any other number of other symptoms. It can be different for everyone, but the point is that quitting dip successfully goes beyond breaking through the most acute early withdrawal symptoms.

What this site offers is a network of support and understanding from people who are struggling through together. There is also the function of daily accountabiloty. No matter what we face, we do it one day at a time and recognize that it will eventually get better if we can quit TODAY.

IÂ’m 601 days quit today because I used the tools at this site to full advantage. Welcome, congratulations on your decision to quit and I hope to see you posting Roll!

Let me know if I can help in any way.

14 years-cold turkey
« on: December 22, 2017, 11:49:00 PM »
On December 13, at 7:00 pm, I poured out my last can of dip, hopefully for the rest of my life. IÂ’m 34, I started dipping when I was 20. Other than an occasional soar throat, IÂ’ve never had any problems from dipping. I dipped Grizzley straight long cut for about 8 years, then switched to Skoal Mint Extra long cut for the last 5 or 6 years.

For the last 10 years or so, I would want a dip for everything IÂ’m doing. Wake up-get a dip, drive to work-get a dip, get to work-get a dip etc... I wanted a dip from sun up to sun down.

I never really tried to quit, I liked dip so much that I was never really serious about quiting so I never “tried” too many times. Well on Dec 13, 2017, I quit cold turkey and will never go back.

What was my big motivation? Well I’m married and have a 2 year old son. He’s enough to need to quit, but he’s not what pushed me over the edge to stop cold turkey. The term “Gator Lip” is what pushed me to quit.

Gator lip is a condition of your cheek when you keep a dip in for extended periods of time. Your cheek will get really rough and peel. You will notice ridges and wrinkles from the snuff constantly sitting in one spot. IÂ’ve had a little touch of this before, but on Dec 13 it was bad. My entire inner cheek was white and torn up from a long day of dipping. I began to read about dip consequences and spent an entire sleepless night reading doom and gloom articles and pictures.

I woke up the next day and scheduled a dentist appointment for the following Friday. By then, after no dipping for a couple of days, my cheek had time to heal and the dentist gave me the “all clear” after 14 years of heavy dipping.

Cold turkey was hell, but to me, itÂ’s the only way. I learned through this site and others, expect the 3 day flu. Nicotine is a drug and you can absolutely expect physical withdrawals if your body is used to a steady stream of nicotine like mine was. I had 2 nights of extreme night sweats and cold shakes, almost identical to the flu. But after 72 hours I was through the withdrawals, and now have to beat the physical addiction.

For me, the physical addiction was easy for the first 5 days because I was running on a clean bill of health from the dentist and the happiness of my cheek healing. Day 6 of 9 I went and bought some Smokey mountain snuff (grape). It was really good and actually gave me the feeling of getting a dip. ItÂ’s 100% herbs so it should be safe, BUT, it tore my lip up like real dip so I dont think its going to be for me either.

In my onion, the key to quitting is knowing what to expect. You know it’s a 72 hour detox from nicotine, if you feel bad you should feel good, that means you’re getting that sh*t out of your body. You’ll want a dip even after the nicotine is gone. Get 3 or 3”4 pieces of gum at once and chew it. Throw it down there like a dip.... just DONT GET A DIP!

Read enough to scare yourself, but also realize that most of us dippers can get out clean with no long term problems. You just have to quit now while you still have a chance.

Good Luck!
