This morning's roll call made me nervous for your quit....questioning why you cannot have a dip with a couple of beers. Hoping I misunderstood your comment and perhaps you meant "why are people challenging me on drinking while I am still early in my quit".
Let me say upfront, I drink. I will also say that in the first ten days, I drank.
Now that said, alcohol lowers inhibitions and clouds judgment....fact.
If I take your roll call comment as it appears to be written.....then that is exactly why many feel alcohol is a risk to a young quit. That would be the nic bitch talking, "I can handle just a dip, just a smoke, while I drink only" That my friend is a pile of steaming bullshit, and don't you make the mistake of believing it.
Personally, I saw a big difference to coming home after a long week, having a good dinner, a couple of bourbons while sitting on the couch with Lovey and dragging my miserable quit ass to bed with a buzz that helped me sleep during the suck....vs. hanging out in a smoky bar, shooting pool, throwing darts with a bunch of my buddies all smoking and chewing. Others would not make that distinction, but to each his own. It worked for me...it was my plan. I also have a Lovey that would have cut off my balls had I tried to leave the house and drive to the convenience store while drunk (FIG - Feisty Italian Girl).
Kurt, you need to decide and plan what is going to take for you to remain quit. Maybe not drinking early on is what you need. IT IS YOUR QUIT AND YOUR LIFE. Think it through and make a plan....don't kid yourself though. Don't throw away 6 days. Take caving out as an option....nic is out of your life forever.
