Hidding sucks - if you hide, most likely you will keep one of the habits going (smoking, dipping, patch, ....) Maybe your stronger than the rest of us. Otherwise, tell the hubby, jump his bones, ask for forgiveness, jump his bones, get him a beer ---- he will forgive, forget and be smiling.

boom - then you've got your best friend, partner as a supporter.

Remember guys are very simple. See something naked, and a beer. Pretty much everything else is just noise.
Sad but true... Get naked, jump his bones, then tell him.

'crackup' 'crackup' 'crackup'

All BS aside you really need to tell him what you are doing. Build as much accountability as you can. The more people who know you are quitting the harder it is for you to let them all down.

Ann, You do know you sound just like an addict. (the hiding and covering your internet trails......same behavior) I don't know about you but my hiding my addiction from my wife, damn near destroyed our marriage. Don't shut out the person who can offer you the most support.

Your call Ann, I won't judge your decision to stay hidden. It is just from my experience, things don't stay hidden forever and when they finally come out you are totally screwed.

We are here for you and and I am glad to see you stopped. Keep at it.

Hey guys...I'm still here. Been reading all the replies and enjoying them a lot. I really mean that. I just haven't been able to reply back. Thank you for all the words of wisdom! I did quit...last Wednesday was my 1st day. Cold turkey, too. I think it's not as hard as I thought it would be. I was only using the skoal pouches for a week and a half...so I'm sure that made it easier. But it is still hard...quitting nicotine all the way! I've been moody and a little depressed, but it's okay. I just hope it doesn't last much longer!

I didn't tell my hubby about my latest weakness and usage after the patch. I just couldn't do it. It's hard because I tell him everything...but I just want this to pass and be over. I considered going on the patch again, but that would of been sucky...to basically start all over again. Plus he did such a great job quitting after the patch, I just want to be on the same page as him...ya know?

I am a little nervous about being really active on here right now. My husband and I are sharing his iPad and he set up my email on there. He's not someone that would look at my emails, but what if he did by accident or something...I don't know...ya never know. I just don't want him coming across an email that says kill the can! hehe! Or if I forget to clear the previous internet sites I'm on. I know it's nothing to be ashamed about and I'm NOT...please don't get the wrong idea! It's all because I decided to not tell him...that's the problem. But I will leave this account open and come on here when I can. Read how everyone's doing and help me stay motivated.

Thanks again everyone...really!!!!!!

Hi,

My name is Andrea, but you can call me Ann. ;) I'm 28 years old and I've been married now for almost 3 years. This seems like a wonderful support group/family. It's great to know things like this are on the internet. I wanted to introduce myself, but I also would like to explain my situation. And I have an important question, that I'm hoping someone could help me with it. I hope it's okay that I do it here, in this thread.

I'm a little embarrassed...but I know I shouldn't be. I'll try my best to explain and not make this too long...
I was a smoker for almost 10 years. So was my Husband. We quit at the same time, 3-4 months ago, but we used the patch/nicoderm CQ. The patch helped so much...it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Well I thought getting off the patch and ending the whole quitting process was going to be just as easy...but for me it wasn't. I stopped using the patch almost 2 weeks ago. Shortly after I noticed a difference in myself. I wasn't craving nicotine...but I was tired, not motivated, depressed and irritable. I hated feeling different. I know it was because I stopped nicotine all the way...no more cigs...no more patch. My Husband was fine...but everyone's different I guess. Well instead of waiting it out and just dealing with it...I decided to use skoal pouches. A few months ago my Husband used them a few times...I tried one and didn't mind it. So that's how I knew about them. Well anyways...I guess I wanted to see if doing that would make me feel better (because I definitely didn't want to start smoking again). It did make me feel better and thought I would just do it a few times or something. I ended up going through a tin, in 2 days. I stopped and started feeling down again...so a few days later I got another tin. Now it's the 5th day/3rd tin. And now I totally screwed up and I'm scared. My Husband doesn't even know and I feel so bad and ashamed (very embarrassed).

What I would LOVE to do...is go back on the patch for a little bit. Start fresh and when I stop the patch this time I will be a lot stronger and just wait it out! So my question is...can I do that? Can I use the patch to now quit smokeless tobacco? I called the nicoderm CQ phone number and the lady told me that the patch was never evaluated for smokeless tobacco...only smoking. I asked her if it would be harmful in any way and she said she couldn't answer that. She suggested for me to talk to my doctor. I really don't want to do that...so I thought maybe someone on here could help. Plus I see how addictive these pouches are and I could relate with all of you.

I don't see why it wouldn't help. Nicotine is nicotine...ya know? I want to try it...but want to make sure it's safe. Let me know what you think.

Sorry this was so long! Thank you so much...
Ann...nothing to be embarrassed about. But if you have spent any time looking over this site, you will have noticed that we are strictly nicotine-free, cold turkey quitters. I know that this was not what you were asking, though.

From a medical standpoint, sure, the patch should work. Please understand that by using the pacth you are simply prolonging your addiction. Throw away your dip and the patches. Become an active member on here and let us support you through the few days of difficult quitting. What do you say?
Thank you, CoachDoc for responding. Yes...I definitely noticed that as I was reading around, but I honestly wasn't sure if some of you tried other ways as part of quitting. Of course doing it cold turkey is the way to go and I think that's amazing that you did that. That shows a lot of strength and will power...that's definitely something to be proud of! Most of the time I doubt my strength and will power...I know I need to work on that.

I hope I didn't seem shallow or anything. I do really look up to you guys. Thank you for answering my question and giving me your opinion. I think I will try my best to go cold turkey. I will post on here and give an update.
Ann,
You most certainly CAN quit cold turkey if you set your mind to it. I can assure you not one person on this site enjoyed the cold turkey method of quitting. It sucked !! In fact we call the first three days " the suck" for that reason. But it is the fastest way to clean your system and gain your life back.

I also can assure you that the way I feel today is MUCH better than I have in years. I have not had poision running through my veins and my body is healing. Wander over to my intro page and read some of the stuff I posted about Nicotine addiction and big tobacco. Should help set you straight.

Now dump the damn can, toss the patches, smokes, snus, whatever else you may have around and lets get to quitting. I just wish I had been smart enought to quit when I was your age..... now get busy !!

Ann,

lets stick with the fat kid analogy here for a second. Say your on a diet , the doc says your a big wallowing fatty mc fatty pants and if you eat any more brownies your going to die a long slow death. So you switch to lollypops, man those lollypops are good but your not losing any weight, you go off lollypops and feel kind of shitty even though your body is starting to heal. But you decide your not liking this little bit of pain , so maybe a slice of pie a few times a day might take the edge off. Meanwhile you can't seem to figure out why your pants don't fit and your ass looks like to Christmas hams fighting under a blanket. "But gee whiz doc I haven't eaten a brownie in ages, I've been really good"

Starting to get the picture? Your not hooked on cigarettes, your hooked on nicotine. You wanna absorb it thru the patch, your lungs, your lip, a cigar, or just rub it on your head its all the same. The gum, the patch , chew , smokes are all just different methods to deliver your drug of choice.

Of course the patch helped, you were still using!! The patch is a whole bunch of BS so are all the other nicotine replacement therapys. There is some evidence that quitting can be more intense for women, Something about female hormones changing the way your body reacts to nicotine, creating a more intense withdrawl. My guess is this is why you had a different experience than your husband. Who by the way, if he is using nicotine in any form, snus, bandits, pouches etc, hasn't quit anything.

Here's what you need to do, go to additional resources on this site, and READ READ READ, go to cancer and quitter stories and READ READ READ. About this time your going to say " oh well these guys are dippers and that doesn't apply to me" This is where your wrong Grasshopper, check out whyquit.org. The use rationalizations are all the same, you could substitute dip or pouch for the word smoke and the stories read the same. NICOTINE IS THE OPPONENT. Now that you know your enemy, you need a plan. As in why are you quitting? For you? forr hubby? cuz somebody said you should? If you are not quitting first and foremost for yourself you have already failed. YOu have to want to be quit for you, YOu have to quit for yourself.

Screw shame, screw embarrasment, your an addict, there is no difference between you and I and a heroin junkie except our choice of drugs. You screwed up, you bought into the lie of using nicotine to quit nicotine, and now your back to the starting gate. You can't beat a brownie addiction by eating pie Right?

Difference is this, we've all stood in your shoes, all of us. We've all lied about our usage, some have damn near gotten divorced over the lies. It gets way worse than where you are now believe me. If you choose to quit, get with the program here, this place will get you quit. It is not going to be easy and you probably won't like it, but it works. There is no magic pill. Education and support are a damn close second. I warn you that at times ( more often than not) this place is crass, shovenistic, questionably homosexual, obnoxious, and flat out rude. Its an acid trip downhill on roller skates at the zoo. My advice is this TAKE WHAT YOU NEED AND LEAVE THE REST

Right now you need to get rid of that can of cancer thats holding you hostage, flush the pouches so you don't go digging em out of the trash. Grab the brass balls that got you this far already and start posting roll. Today is the first day of your quit, Today you can promise a bunch of nicotine soaked knuckle heads just like you ( only uglier I'm sure) that you will stay quit. Surely you can stay quit for one day right? Go to October and post a day one along with your screen name,I think Ann might be a bit whimpy so I think you should be Ann of Arc or ConAnn the destroyer or something equally as cool.

So whattya say there ? a day one? no nic? If I can do it after 2 cans per day for 23 years I know you can do it. Do I here a 'Finger' US Tobacco, or will you just fade away like so many others with good intentions and no courage? The gauntlet has been thrown ,are you a quitter or what?

Welcome Ann. I understand your question and it seems to me you quit smoking using the patch and then substituted the nicotene you were getting first from cigarettes, then from the patch and then from skoal. Guess what? You have not quit at all. You have just changed your form of nicotene intake. If you really want to quit you are in the right place. We have a few females and a few smokers (not you G40). You must decide to quit tobacco in all forms and quit it cold turkey. Make you pledge daily and keep you r word. It will be painful for a few days but IT GETS BETTER. It is none of my business but I think you should be honest with your husband and come clean. Welcome read the site and read some more. I will warn you the language is often not for ladies but I think you can manage. Good Luck MOA
Thank you so much for understanding and for the smart advice.

And I'm definitely use to language and pretty much anything! I've always had more guy-friends, than girl-friends!
