Day - 996 - Thinking About The "Periphery"

The Periphery

One of the necessary lessons that everyone needs to learn when it comes to quitting is that we are all addicts.  When we finally get that through our thick, nicotine-laced skulls we have made our first great stride toward successfully putting down the nicBitch for good.  KTC helps us understand and grasp what being an addict is all about.  Score one for KTC.

With that new set of lenses we often begin to notice other addictive or destructive behaviors in our lifestyles and it’s natural to want to kick those as well.  However, you might say that these other addictions are on the periphery when it comes to KTC.  This site’s raison d'être is to help people quit the nicotine habit.  Nothing less; nothing more.  That is KTC’s focus, its expertise.

So all of us have several things in common:  We understand the slavery of nicotine addiction; We understand the hell of nicotine withdrawal; And we understand the work it takes to regularly post roll to keep our quits a priority.

The battle against nicotine makes this place volatile and explosive.  Our nerves, our patience and our tempers all get frayed, especially at the beginning.  Now, if you couple that with other issues that folks go through – other addictions, psychological problems or even personality clashes – we can end up in some major conflicts.  Here's the rub:  We do not understand what others go through on the periphery, nor are we especially capable of understanding or dealing with those problems.  That disconnect has a raw nerve.  Touch it and you will find yourself in the line of fire and what was supposed to be a friendly and helpful quit site develops into a drama zone worse than the daily soap operas.

The solution to this issue is simple.  We need to keep ourselves focused on the core.  KTC will not solve all your problems but it can solve one of them:  your slavery to nicotine.  You’re participation here is first and foremost to post roll and make your promise to your group that you will not use nicotine today.  Their responsibility is to keep you accountable, to encourage you and to be a safety net when things get tough.  Do not expect your quit group to understand everything you are going through.  Expect them to help you stay nicotine free in the midst of life’s good and bad circumstances.

Along the way, you will find some camaraderie in other areas.  That’s what the Wildcard section is all about.  But please do not bring this tangential stuff into the core.  To do so will merely muddy the waters and discourage people who really need you to stand beside them in their war against nicotine.

I quit dipping 11 days ago.
Nov 3, 2010 you showed up on Day 12.

That makes Oct 23, 2010 your quit date.

You are on 997 today. 07.18.13 is when you get your comma.

What is ol LOOT missing here?
The official calendar indicates that the 20th is the date.

I've always considered 10/25/2010 to be my quit date.

If I recall correctly, although things were a bit foggy back then, I set the date at 10/25 so as to join February 11 and not to squeeze into January 11. Foggy quitters logic which makes absolutely no sense now.
Can we get an accountant in here please...?

Day - 987 - Looking Ahead to July 23, 2013

[color=3377aa]
My wife and I are planning a big celebration on the 23rd -- the day I hit 1,000 days quit.
I ordered a KTC Logo Ringer T-Shirt to wear for the party.
I never thought I'd reach this point; The freedom is incredible!

Freedom and earned success. The very best feelings in the world.
Awesome Keddy, just Awesome!!!!
Thank YOU for being here.

Just an ass kicker. For all the pussies that think they can't make it one day. Look here. Read his earliest post and see that Keddy is a Quit Warrior.

He didn't quit posting at 100. How many hit the hall - stop posting - and make it 1,000 days?

Examples are some of my greatest teachers. Keddy is the good example that I learn from and mimic.
Enjoy the day! I spent mine with my wife and kids as well.. GREAT DAY!

Well earned !!
Nice Keddy thanks for paving the way. I will be thinking of you I hit the hall that day!
Hey, Trauma, we'll celebrate together. Day 100 rocks seriously as well!
According to the KTC calculator / calendar I should be at Day 993 and hitting Day 1000 on the 20th.

According to my fastidious records wacko.gif I'm at Day 990 and should be hitting the next floor on the 23rd.

I guess the party will be moved to the 23rd?
