An Open Letter to New Quitters
Why are we dicks?
By: Per034 (A damn fine quitter if I do say so)

Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen a lot of negative reaction from you about the type of hard-love given on this site. I completely understand that reaction. We’re adults. New quitters and vets alike. We’re all adults here. Your reaction is usually an emotional one. “I came here because I thought I’d be getting support, not getting screamed at by a bunch of cyber-bully dickheads. Fuck you guys – I’m an adult! I don’t need you berating me!”

And you would be right. You are an adult. And you do not need us screaming at you. But here’s the point you really need to understand – We are not screaming at you, the new quitter. We are screaming at the addict inside of you. You need to recognize – as we do now – that there are two versions of you.

Version 1 is the new quitter who came here with every intention of ridding yourself of this awful affliction we’re all dealing with. This is the version we love and respect. This is the version that receives unyielding support. This is the version that gets “quit with” by supporters on roll-call. This is the version we reply to with phrases like “you got this” and “you’re doing great” and “day x is a tremendous accomplishment – keep it up!”

Then there’s Version 2. We all have this second version of ourselves. This is the version who likes dip – who never wanted to quit dip in the first place. This is the version who wants to finger the nic bitch every chance it gets. And THIS is the version we are all dicks to. We recognize when this version comes around. He (or she) is usually cavalier in his posting. Usually questions the methods we employ on this site. Is usually overwhelmingly arrogant and – at some point – believes “I don’t really need this site anymore.” That version of you wants to go back to nicotine. That version of you is fighting you for control over your addiction. And THAT is the version of you – and of us – that we hate.

This addiction – and our desire to eliminate it – results in a pretty significant internal struggle. This site – and the veteran support found here – is intended to help Version 1 of you defeat Version 2 of you. And yeah, sometimes (most of the times) we have to be dicks about it.
If you've only read this ^^^^^ once read it again. Read it until the version 1 seas it. It is clear that version 2 is in control right now. We don't like number 2.

Mat, it took balls to come back and post this after you caved and got this shit load of crap piled on your intro, from day 1. As a proud American let me say thanks for your service (Navy) Mat, and you sound mad enough and God willing ready to quit. If you are this group will be here to support you.

GOD DAMN

Well here i am. 12:30am Friday night half drunk with a plug in my cheek. There, you have my reply.

Well if it makes any of you feel better i sacked up and ditched the bitch patches(no i didn't stick em to my nut sack), fuck sake. Why do i even care what you think? Had i known the "community" i stumbled upon via Google would be so Nazi regime, i would have thought twice before posting.
Now before you all flame up on me and say "oh he's a bitch, oh he's a twat" fuck, you don't know me. None of you know anything about me. Yes, i've seen what you've written, I've seen the support you all share and hell, i've even taken time out of my workday to read other posts on how hard it is to quit; granted your balls in your face "attitude" you have. I came to this site thinking, "oh shit Mat, you might find people, PEOPLE, just like you who have a problem." Well holy shit batman!

Yes, I'm an addict, yes i need to kill the bitch, no i don't need to be stroked or pat on the back. But for fucks sake, when i get 20 replies telling me to man up and quit being a bitch, sack up, he's yellow, does he go by this, does he go by that; fuck you. I've never done cold turkey, hell i thought the nic patches were the way to go. I "thought" shit, you might kick this habit. God forbid i find more humane "friends" to help me kick the habit.

Well here i am, not nic free, but telling you all, in my GOD given right, it's hard as fuck to quit, I'm not denying that. You all know this, but for fucks sake, before you chop off my nuts and throw me up on a cross, how bout you say "hey, it sucks right, check out what we know" You might learn something from that.

*EDIT*
Not all comments were twat remarks, fyi

Never owned my quit till I came here and maybe today is just a good day - but I feel awesome

You got this Mat err I mean Drake
Mat or Drake? Is his last name "yellow"?

I do recall how hard it was to break it off with my nicotine mistress. Looking back today....Should have crushed her years earlier. Wish I never even danced with that bitch.

Drake what did she give you? What does she take from you? (She gave you lies and took your freedom) Nicotine is a parasite that thinks it is more important than the host. Kill her cause she is slowly killing you.

Jump in the pool and be all in today! We'll worry about tomorrow once we can get you to quit and get a victory today. You will be glad you did. Victory over nicotine...It hurts and it is so rewarding!!!!

There is only one way to quit - non use - any other avenue is simply continuation!

Nicotine can still kill you regardless of the form.

1. This cat just thinks that patches are the next step in quitting or

2. This cat is too damn scared to take the plunge.

If you have any intestinal fortitude, cold turkey is a faster way to gain freedom from this vice. Prolonging or tempering a quit doesn't make sense.

What addict do you know of that has an internal dimmer switch and can control their addiction? Don't fool yourself that tempering your hits of nicotine is going to make your quit any easier.

You my friend went from crack to cocaine in nicotine terms. The makers of the nicotine patches and gum are just taking a share of the financial pie from UST. You are still addicted.

If you insist on patching it up, put it on your balls so you remember you still can be a man about quitting.

Hey there guys,

Well I'm not quite sure what to say. My name is Mat I'm 28 and I've been chewing for about 7 years now. I started up when i was in the Navy and I'm to the point in my life now where i really need to kick this habit. I quit for about 30 days a couple years ago but started up again and this last weekend just decided it was time. I picked up the Nicotine patches from Costco on Sunday and wanted Monday to be my first day, but i still had some chew in my can(can't let that stuff go to waste i told myself  )
So i dumped what i had yesterday morning and put the patch on. Last night was a bit rough, but i picked up a can of smokey mountain and had a couple of those, why they chose to put the corn silk in there is beyond me haha but oh well. Feelin pretty good this morning, rode my bicycle to work and here we are.
Why i'm choosing to quit, the main reason being my overall health and gums. My step dad and father in law were both chewers and have lost their teeth because of it, i don't want to be that person if i can help it. But one of my biggest reasons to quit is my desire to do more active healthy outdoorsy stuff. I purchased a mountain bike a couple years ago and i really want to get in to single track downhill, fast stuff. Had to do that when you can barely pedal up a hill!
So that's me in a can, happy to be here with fellow quitters!
Posting roll, day 1 down, day two is lookin sunny!
Welcome Mat to the best decision of your life! There isn't much that I can say that hasn't already been said in this thread.

Like so many others have already said, this is a no nic site. PERIOD. The sooner you ditch all forms of nicotine and go through the suck, the better off you'll be. Don't prolong it and make your body go through the suck twice, that's just cruel to yourself!

So in that case, listen to what these guys have to say...especially the vets, they've been through it and know what to expect. Know that it isn't going to be easy but that's why we are all here to help you and support you! You can send any of us a PM and we'll make sure that we get you through this shit.

Quit and be BAD ASS as fuck with the sluts!
Mat,
Welcome to the site yep it is a nicotine free site like the others have said. Another few things that need to be pointed out is you didn't quit in the past you had a stoppage...and this is not a habit its an addiction and like you we are addicts here. You cant slide excuses by us we have all used them and heard them. I want the best for you brother I want you to drop the patches and get your suck on. We will all be here for you brother trust me I know we will be here. I had to lean on my brothers this week and they did it without question they jumped in with nothing but SUPPORT!!!!

PM me if you need my digits and I will be there drop the slow bandaid approach and get this quit on.
I have to agree with Radman and all these bad ass quitters here. Drop the excuses, grow a pair and drop the band-aid. All that will do is keep you in a constant state of withdrawl. Get on over to the September 13 group and post up your day 1. I will be their to quit with you as will anyone else on this site. If you need a number or anything at all just pm me.
hmmmm to much support? where did this cat go to go hang out with woabot? N if you quit Woabot I apologize.
