So i've tried just around 10 times to try and quit chewing completely. I have not had much success in the past. In fact I've had no success to even make it past the 1st day. I'm only 20 been chewing consistently for 3 or 4 years. Didn't think it would be that hard for me since I'm still young. Man, was I wrong. I was just posting to see if anyone had any advice/secrets/tips to get me through day 1. It scares me knowing that I can't make it through the first day and have no idea what to expect on day 2...or 3...or for the next couple months :(
Welcome Drizzy,
Your making the right move brother!!! And you found the best place to help you with this fight!!!
Yes your young and have only been dipping for 4 years but that doesn't make you any less of an ADDICT!!!!
Read as much as you can on this site. Take an hour and just look around and read.
Everyone here has gone through your struggles.
I used sunflower seeds and sugar-free gum to get me through the beginning of my quit, that might help you. Exercise is a great outlet too.
You'll be hearing from some Veteran's of this site, pay attention and make it happen!!
Brian
Drizzy - doesn't matter whether you've been dipping for 1 year or 30 years. You have to fight thru the fog. I'm glad to see you here thinking about quitting. I don't know if you have dumped the cans or not. First off listen to brian, go and read about the quit. You will see that you are experiencing things like a lot of us did. I've tried to quit on my own over the last 30 years and I failed everytime. I tried to give it up for Lent, quit when kid was born, quit when I hit 30, on and on. I didn't really figure out how to quit until I found this site. Everytime that I thought about taking a dip, I thought about my brothers and sisters here at KTC. I promised them that I wouldn't dip today. I don't like to break my word. Guess what after you accept that when you post it's off the table for day, then when the crave hits, you pop in some fake stuff and say, I can't dip because I promised today. That's why it's important to post first thing in the morning and take the option off the table. The crave will pass and each time you become stronger!
SO make sure you have it very clear in your foggy brain that when you post you quit for the day. Then use exercise to burn the rage, stress and craves off. Pray for strength, and use candy, or fake stuff (mint) to get past the "need".
I'm a 30 year ex-dipper now posting up day 102. I'm old compared to you, if an old dog can learn to do the same damn tricks BUT WITHOUT A DIP then you can fight this battle too.
Send me a PM or email (use the buttons below this message) if you want my contact info.
Your on step 1, you are here. Now go to step 2 and promise/post
Welcome to the quit - dump the word try and just do it.
