I've noticed I become extremely frustrated by those that "can't", or "don't have time" or "will start Monday" (really?! It's Friday!) Then of course they don't start Monday. I have 3 kids with one on the way, worked overtime for 5 months and serve in church twice a week. I quit dipping cold turkey and work out for at last an hour and a half daily. I don't accept excuses anymore.

As someone who doesn't sleep anyway before quitting I have some advice. Go to a health food store (GNC, vitamin shoppe, etc) and get some Natural melatonin. It's apart of my daily supplement routine and it helps greatly. It's not narcotic because your body produces it naturally. Take it about an hour before bed.
I actually have some. But my nose is so ridiculously plugged I can't sleep, even with it. Went to the doc today and got some steroids for the inflammation and some antibiotics for the infection. I think things will start getting better on the sleep front very soon.

So just when my quit seems to be getting "easier"....I decide I need to quit the Afrin nasal spray as well. lol

Good grief, I have slept 5 hours in two nights....and have a sinus infection and bronchitis. But you know what....feel better than when I was controlled by that crap in can!

No problem! If anything helps someone else it's all good!

So yesterday I started to ride to work in 40 degree weather...blah blah, things didn't pan out, so I put on a different jacket. PISSED ME OFF to find a can in the pocket. PISSED ME OFF. lol. It was the first time I'd worn the coat this season.

My sleep has been getting better. I still wake up more times a night than I'd like, but wake up feeling more rested than before. I was given a scientific explanation for it. Something about nicotine users sleeping heavier. Also given another reason..."sleep is for the weak. When you give up your tobacco, that takes strength. Thus, your gain in strength is followed a lesser need for sleep, you boss." Yup...badass.

Exercise will make you tired. The more you exercise the better you'll sleep.

VedMan,

I am right there with you, I am at day 54 and still have trouble sleeping half the time. My issue is actually falling asleep, I get what feels like anxiety in the evenings and my mind races so that I can't fall asleep. I have tried all sorts of herbal OTC remedies and Unisom, they really didn't work. I went to my doctor, and as much as I hate using it, he prescribed me Klonopin to take on an as needed basis. I really try to limit the use as I don't want to end up dependent another supstance. I just keep telling my self at some point it will be over and I will be able to go back to my normal sleep habits/patterns, sometimes it doesn't feel like I will ever get there. Reading up on this site helps to know that at least there are a few folks that deal with or have dealt the same issue for an extended period during their quit, helps keep your sanity :) I don't know if anything I wrote hear helps in anyway, but know that your definitely not alone, I am working on 3 hours sleep this morning.

This insomnia B.S. is getting old. I'm now at day 62 and very seldom do I get even 5 hours of straight sleep. Last night I get home from a meeting an hour away from here. Was about 10:30, got to bed and asleep around 11. Woke up at 2:30 and been awake since.
This is my typical night. Any suggestions?

i'm taking my 6 year old daughter hunting for the first time on saturday, that will help me to stay quit (never chewed in front of her) - so without knowing it, she will be my rock to lean on to make it through saturday

Deer archery season opened Monday.  I'll be hitting the woods Friday, Saturday or Sunday evening.  Going to be a good stepping stone as it's been years since I've been in the woods with out longhorn or timberwolf.  Betting my smoky mountain peach has a more natural scent than the real stuff.
Awesome man.

Besides you SMS, what's your plan?

Do you have other nicotine users going with you? Have you told them you've quit? You gonna carry a cell phone and stay checked in?
I will be by myself, and have no other plan. Keep some crunchy snacks in the pack for hunger and cravings. And yeah, I'll be checking in.

Continued bitching from yesterday....past couple days have felt...overly dramatic.

Day 26. Is this who I am without freaking worm dirt? Things have chilled at home, I'm no longer the biggest asshole my wife knows. Which is cool. But I'm freaking miserable at work. Have I been in some sort of nicotine induced fog? Some sort of trip that made me to believe I actually like it here? That I being the only non blood relative here, can put up with the favoritism that I obviously don't receive? Let me give you a big fat fer instance...coworker, in the same position as I, my cousin in law if you will, took last Friday off, after 4 months of overtime. Because he needed a recharge. Sounds great! I'll do the same. They actually give me shit, laugh at my insistence not to be here and said if I wasn't working for family, I would be fired. I'm thinking "ugh, if you weren't family, I'd have quit long before this!" (and I'd have better health insurance) choke them...choke my freaking uncle.....in law.

Been there done that last weekend deer hunting with my son. I had a few minor craves and turned those thoughts into a teachable moment. Instead of teaching him by cramming that poison into my cheek I reminded him of my quit and told him I am glad I stopped. Even at 8 years old he knows the dangers and cared enough about dad to try to convince me to stop relentlessly. He was always asking me to quit and he even tried unsuccessfully to convince me give it up for lent. Being the senseless addict who believed the lies of nicotine I ignored my own sons request telling him it was adult stuff and buzz off. What a fool I was, turns out he should be doing the teaching and I should have been listening better.
I ate a lot of MMs when I first went to the woods with dip.

The truth in this is that when you confront and defeat these sorts of craves, your quit gets a magnitude stronger.

You can do this! Keep strong.

Quit 8/14/12 and taking my life back one day at a time.

I?m trying to remind myself daily it?s not the absence of conflict that determines whether or not my relationships are healthy. It?s knowing how to handle the conflicts that will arise.

I was off hunting last week with my 4 yr. old grandson instead of my Copenhagen. First time I've been hunting nic free in probably 36 yrs! I'm at 186 days and until I read your post I hadn't even thought about my hunting being nic free. I had so much fun with my grandson I never once thought about a dip!
