jschantz,

ninereasons sums it up pretty well:

"If you think you've got a better way to quit, congratulations. Post the news on facebook. Start a blog. But, it doesn't make sense to do that here, unless you're trying to stir up trouble. If you want to quit your own way, you should quit on your own. "

The roll call, the accountability, yes the "stress" of being ostracized are all part of the design of this site..

Why? because we are all addicts.  I'm an addict.. Sounds like you are one also..

And addicts need the size twelve kick in the seat every now and then to stay on track.

And addicts have a tendency to lie.. And the first people we lie to are ourselves.. ("Sure, I can make it on my own.", "I'm not really THAT bad.." and on and on and on and on..)

And until the addiction is broken we will squirm and weasel.. The addiction cannot just be placated.. It has to be continually killed.

To "Join" but then expect the ones who designed and founded this site, and the rest of us who have agreed to be a part of it AS IT IS, to change things to accomodate you and go your way is a foolish assumption. And a rather selfish one at that. That's not joining...

If what you advocate actually worked, I would have been quit since 1985..

I'm on Day 4.. This site is working for me as it is. And I'm here because it has worked, AS IT IS, for many, many before me.

So my advice, as kindly and as low stress as I can put it, is this:

Get with the program and be a part of this site it AS IT IS..  Or go start your own site.

Best regards,

Mark

This is pretty standard stuff. People, just want to know why its taken 3 years to get going. You never know, a bit of insight from you may help someone else reinforce their own quit or start quitting.

If you are looking for backrubs and light ass play, this ain't your place. If you want down to earth, blood and guts quitting, then this is your home.

If you can't handle a little vetting, what are you going to do when nicotine starts whipersing sweet nothings in your ear?

You understand NOTHING by just visiting this site. You have learned little of value until you learn what it is to be accountable.

Wow. Yes, I signed up 3 years ago but I guess I wasn't ready to quit. Have any of you posting here had to attempt to quit more than once? If not, you are obviously a better man than I. Regardless, I came back here because I am ready. I suppose I could have signed up with a new user id and pretended to be someone trying for the first time. But I am true to myself. I thought this was a place for support, not for attack. I am still going and I am not going to cave. You don't know me and I don't really know you of course. But to attack someone who is simply looking for a support forum? WTF man! And why? Because I didn't make the quit the first time I tried? Because I don't have a computer at my disposal every day to post roll? Because I don't see why I would need to post roll daily? Perhaps some of the people here need to reexamine what we are all trying to accomplish. There is no cookie cutter mold to quitting this evil substance. There is no right or wrong way as long as the outcome leads to the defeat of nicotine dependance. So call me what you want. Question my integrity or my allegiance to this Almighty Site! So be it! I was just looking for support from those who are in the midst of quitting and those who have overcome.
Are you going to post roll? If so, welcome and PM me if there's anything I can do. If you're just coming in here to give us all a status update, surely you understand why folks who are posting their word for each other every day aren't rolling out the red carpet.

If you're ready to post your promise not to use nicotine today, let us know and we'll help you navigate the site and give you all the support you need. Yes, the most important thing is that you stay quit, but if you don't need this site, please get on with your program and leave us to help those who can't go it alone.

The thing I love about this site and the people is everybody really seems to understand everything only after a few days of visiting the site. I wish electrical engineering had a learning curve like this site.

jschantz, the roll call is exactly what it says, maybe you need to re-read it. It's a promise that you quit nic for that day. It helps the rest of us quit "one day at a time". Im sure everybody here has tried to quit before without luck but when you bring it here it seems more serious and dire, to me atleast anyways. Your brothers are here with you, going through the same thing, use us, we can help.

I am getting through day one and I can tell you flat out that the reason I am still quit this far into the day is because I Posted Roll Call.

Thanks.  I am determined to make it this time.  Today, slightly better.  Cravings are down and the fact that my gums are sore makes me want one even less.  Havent even gone to the Hooch today yet.  I hear ya guys about the posting roll, but I don't need all the stress I see there.  Honestly, all that bickering and discipline of roll call makes me less likely to make it.  I think I will continue to succeed going the route I'm on.  No way I'm going back to the can this time.  Thanks again!
wtf-you signed up 3 yrs ago? Couldn't make it past two days? Good luck chump

Well, I am a dozen days in to my quit and I feel like I got the worst flu of my life. I'm tired, sore throat, over heated, chills. Hell, even my mouth hurts (though that might be the Cayenne pepper in the Hooch Snuff I've been using). Anyway, just need to vent and hope someone tells me this is normal! Boy, I hope it is.
Please forgive me if I missed the grand explanation. How is it that your account is three years (over 1000 days) old and your entire three posts, waffling ones at that, have all been this week? 'Popcorn'

Just curious, that's all. I tried to ask nice  sweet as to not upset you and cause you any undue stress.
