Not really an introduction as some of you know. Just wanted to share something quick. Was hospitalized yesterday with a bowel obstruction. No worries however, got things "moving" again this morning. Damn that Demerol is amazing, where was it when I was going through withdrawl. What I wanted to share with you guys is the first thought that went through my head when I realized I was going to be hospitalized was "oh shit, how am I gonna post role?" Having had time to reflect on that thought, I think it shows my level of committment to this quit and more than anything I guess I'm pretty proud of that. How did I post this morning you might ask? Conned a student nurse into letting me borrow one of the hospital's laptops. On a sidenote, she's really hot. Not sure what else I can "con" her into.(Just Kidding, I'm a married man.)

Guys- Reading the different posts throughout the site has made the difference for me. 6 days w/out after 24 years of Cope. I'm hangin, but cautious. I read the posts at different times and it keeps me good. Nodipnow
Cool thing bout this site is there is plenty of info on what you need to expect the further you go. No surprises if you have read about it and knnow it is coming....kinda lets you "brace" yourself and you know bout how long it will last.

You are starting off great....just keep posting early and then keep your word...today.

I also gave up a 29 year habit of cope....122 days ago.

I hear you fella, 11 days in and I'm strong. Don't want to get overconfident but I've never felt better about quitting than I have each of the last 11 days. Gonna take each day as it comes, no more no less.
Yeah.......stories are all about the same. Started for some stupid reason swore we'd quit a million times try about as many and failed.

Then one day you see the light and find this site and the rest is history.

I dropped a 30 year addiction 122 days ago and don't plan on going back, at least not today and I will handle tomorrow when it gets here.

I have been amazed at reading posts from the rest of you fellas at the similarities we all have in how nicotine literally took control of our lives. Don't get me wrong, I take full responsibility for my addiction. But I have to stop and ask the question, what the f---? I look at the decades that this drug has controlled not only my life but so many of yours as well. Is it not the easiest thing in the world to do each night before nodding of to sleep, to tell yourself tomorrow is the big day I'll finally quit. This was a nightly routine for me for the better part of 20 years. But with each new day, I couldn't eat my breakfast and brush my teeth fast enough to get that first chew of the day in for the commute to work. It's what my life revolved around. That's pretty sad when you've got a wonderful wife and two of the sweetest kids you could ask for. I thank God every day for the fact that I found the strength each day for the last 11 days to make a comittment to abstain from nicotine. This site has been instrumental in my success as well and I thank you all for your support.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. We've been fishing 'eyes and smallmouth on the Wisconsin River since it's open all year. Our opener is this weekend and would be a little more fired up if it wasn't for my turkey season this week. I have heard of both of those lakes and if I remember correct Okoboji is famous for it's slab gills and having to sight fish them. Make sure to check out the outdoors section on the "wildcard" thread on this site, a little slow right now but I'll be posting each time I get out.
I'll check it out thanks for the heads up. You are exactly right on the slab gills and yes the water is "gin clear" pretty much year round. Ice fishing is a blast, no need for Vexilar you see everything you catch. I'll have to post when I get out as well on the wildcard thread. Again thanks for the info.

What have you been fishing already, walleye on a river? Not sure if you've ever heard of Lake Okoboji or Big Spirit Lake in Iowa but that's where we live(Big Spirit). Took the kids to the fish hatchery today, fun to see the huge walleye and musky they've netted. I saw more musky over 40 inches today than I've seen in my life. Today was a week for me. No headaches today, thank God.

Gooch- same for me, but have been on the open water a couple times already (WI). After the first couple minutes you'll realize how much more time you have to cast and worry about fishing instead of spitting and putting diggers in. More time=more fish in the boat!
