This is a more rant then anything else but here we go. I am 6 days in to my quit and besides feeling anxious ever so often I it has been going better then I thought. The thing I am worried about is MN deer opener is coming this weekend and I am worried that I might not enjoy myself. it irritates me that nicotine is making me dread going into the woods and be left with my thoughts. being able to sit in the woods and not really focus on anything in general and just enjoy the peace and quiet made my November.  I believe the ability to distract my brain for the past 6 days has helped my quit but ever so often the thought of what are you going to do if you start to feel on edge up in the stand am I going to freak out. Just need to vent that frustration.
Hey Scott - As a fellow Minnesotan and occasional deer hunter, I was super worried about sitting in my stand without a can of poison. But I can assure you, your mind is making it way worse than it will be. Sure you will get some cravings and you will be thinking about it, but you will be able to hunt successfully without dip. I would suggest bringing some hard candies or gum with you into your stand as well as maybe some fake dip like Smokey Mountain, Grinds or Baccoff.

And as always, make that promise early every damn day and honor your word 24 hours at a time. I hope you get a big one!  'remshot'
So much all of the above. We only thought nicotine helped. You can do anything without nicotine that you used to "need" nicotine for. It's all mental as far as that goes. Thousand of KTC quitters who are also hunters that had the exact same fears. You can lower through it, just be prepared with seeds, fake, gum, or whatever does it for you

Hang in there... seasonal triggers are real but if you recognize them you'll be able to combat them.

Quick story:

About 3 weeks ago I was tossing the ball around with my son.  I was having one eye on him and another eye on my daughter who was messing around on the bleachers.  I looked up at the wrong time and caught the ball in my mouth.   ::)

Blood and a good cut inside both my lips, hurt like F.  I couldn't get that top lip to heal on its own, cuz it wasn't getting air.  Some additional measures taken and finally, I am back to normal with a healed mouth.

Well after some reflection from that stupid experience, I realized.... I haven't had to deal with mouth pain, sores, issues in - I can't even remember how long.  Before I quit, it was a usual happening to consciously have to chew / eat spicy foods on one side of my mouth to avoid what I had been doing to myself.  To brush my teeth sensitively to avoid pain... etc.

I am quit today, like 989 days before this.  You start to take for granted what being free of that poison is all about.  Hard to remember what things were like 3 years ago.  If you are reading this, I promise you, you can do this, you can live a life with a healthier mouth.

Do not put off for tomorrow what you can do today.  You can quit.

Awesome - thanks for sharing - tremendous to hear these sorts of reminders and GOOD 'side effects' of quitting.

Proud to be quit with you today!

I was having a discussion with my wife and some of her friends that never chewed/smoked about the vaping crisis. I explained the problem with nic gum and vaping.

I hide chew from everyone, it was frowned upon.  Sneaking chews, away from family and friends.  When I couldn't chew, I had nic gum (trying to quit), in between.  the nicotine flowing through my veins had to be off the charts.

Smoking; also frowned upon but also 2nd hand smoke, so people would removed themselves from work/friends/family, etc.  But now, get a vape deal, you can do it anywhere discretely, there is no break, just 24/7 and that has to be hard on your body and lungs.

just thinking and sharing, stay quit!

Yep... it's getting close to epidemic status, especially amongst young folks. I've always been more of a libertarian but I'm glad we're taking action against this now.

If only similar action would have been taken against Big Tobacco back in the day before smoking / smokeless became what it did... Think of the lives that could have been saved.
Infuriating.  They just hooked a new generation!  Interesting chart and info on WhyQuit https://whyquit.com/joel/Joel_Index_07_Prevention.html  Just as cig use was going down, guess what took its place?

I'm all for having a national conversation about opioid addiction and the like.  But nicotine kills more people than all other addictive substances combined.  I'm usually a libertarian on these kinds of things too - but glad to see them moving to ban the flavored juices from kids.  Most wouldn't use if it tasted like crap tobacco.
Just one and you will be back to where you started, and where you started was desperately wishing you were where you are now.

Controlling urges

I've learned that if you ignore the craving, it just goes away, sometimes immediately. If you take even step towards giving in or don't dismiss the thought right then, your mind takes advantage and that's when the excuse making and justifications start coming.

With that in mind, how do you guys deal with the sudden urges? I've got sunflower seeds and Grinds to keep my mouth busy. I also reward myself with food or candy. You can't quit dip and lose weight at the same time.

Another strategy is I go play with my kids, take them out somewhere or sit down in my studio with my guitar ( lead singer of a band, working on a solo album ).

I've been fortunate, it's been a pretty easy road for me the past few weeks by using lessons I learned from previous failures. Let's here from you guys.
Couldn'y agree more on the hobbies Dan..  Have aGuitar myself, a great alternate focus....

With your history and experiences, I bet you could write some great blues or country songs!!
