As a side note: Is it just me or is Braden's avatar turning everyone on?

Really?  It's everyone.  Yeah I thought so.

Sorry, it's 3:29 AM and I can't sleep.  Well I did sleep for about 3 hours so hey, that's great!  I'll be a fucking treat to deal with tomorrow.  They'll be nothing but sunshine coming outta my ass.

And to Braden, thanks for all of your help so far man.  Seriously.
My pleasure man. Just doing exactly what others did for me and I've already seen you doing for others. Besides, it's you doing the heavy lifting for yourself, don't forget it and be proud of it.

Always happy to help good people trying to do good things.

I know how you feel, because I felt the exact same way. But...

This is what should scare you: you were trapped by an addiction that was killing you.

Now you are fighting your way out of that trap. Think of every withdrawal and craving as a reminder of just how serious and deadly that trap is. Let each withdrawal and craving strengthen your resolve to never go back.
Got news for you... it scared me too. So I don't think about it.

Quit today. We'll deal with tomorrow when it gets here.

That has worked so far for me... 900+ days en counting quitting one day at a time.

There's one thing I can tell will be critical to your success: overcoming the illusion that dipping was fun. As long as you hold on to that idea you'll be in hell. In reality, all dipping does is relieve nicotine withdrawals. A dipper starts experiencing withdrawals about 15 minutes after spitting out the dip (at least that was my experience).  The next dip doesn't make you feel good, it makes you feel less bad. Once I started actively reminding myself of this during each crave, my life became better almost immediately (I was a few weeks into my quit when I figured this out).

Welcome aboard and congrats on a great decision!
I don't think I ever thought of dipping as fun. However, I believe I liked it. I can see attributing the attraction to the little rituals I suspect dippers have to addiction. I got to say, though, I think I liked the taste. I got to say, too, right now,

Yet, all that might just say exactly what and where I am: an addict on day 6 of withdrawals.

RIPgrizzly,

You've made a wise decision guy....and at your age it makes it even better!

I'm only on day 5 so I can't say much about the experience other than day four felt better than day 3 and day 5 is looking good thus far.

Post your roll call every day and the support will come out of the wood work. The guys here are amazing and know their shit.

You can do this, I can do this, we all can do this!

Take care,
Mike

RIPgrizzly, I am also a new quitter and I can definitely relate to what you're going through. My last dip was on March 13 so tomorrow will be two weeks for me. You've come to the right place to get help with this thing. It was my own experience that by the third day things have gotten as bad as they're going to get. Just remember, you'll only have to go through this once UNLESS YOU CAVE. Another thing to consider, the thought of never dipping again can be overwhelming to a new quitter. Just focus on quitting one day at a time. Before you know it you'll have several dip free days strung together, the fog will begin to lift, and you will be placing your foot square in the ass of this nicotine addiction. Let me know if I can help in any way. Good luck and God Bless.
Well said. These might be appropriate too.

Great decision RIPGrizzly -- good screen name too.

What I wouldn't give to have made my decision at the age you are making it at. It would have given me so many more years of enjoying life chew-free...good for you. I didn't realize how much chewing affected my life until I quit. Like you said, trips to the store, spitters everywhere, girlfriend/wife issues, embarassing run-ins with a huge dips  mouthfuls of spit...on and on and on.

Something you may not have considered too is that many of us are older than you and have families  kids. This makes it even more complicated. You're now screwing with other peoples lives and emotions. Of course you don't want your kid to see you with a fatty in, but you have to do it, so that equals less time with your kids for this fricken addiction...nice Dad. You wife hates it and knows it's going to kill you or tear off half you face...nice Husband. You get the picture. This may seem like something you can't relate to, but brother at 21 I thought there would be no way I would still chewed when I got to my thirties. Well, 15 years, at least 5,500 cans of chew  approximately 25,000 dollars later, here I am at 36. That's pathetic.

Quit for yourself, but know you'll have a bunch of us who should have done it earlier cheering you on.

We all can relate to exactly what you're saying and feeling. You can and will do this since you made youre decision. Now stick to it and don't look back. You've already taken the first and scariest step of all. Just keep close to the site and keep reminding yourself everyone here was able to do it, and so are you.

Let me know if you need anything. Otherwise head over to the July quit group and post you name  days quit. They will be psyched to have you and a great source of support for you .There is so much good information  so many good dudes on this site just start looking around.

I just learned something reading NKT's post. A couple days ago Brad64 was crawling out of his skin, now he's dishing out the motivation. The amount of good stuff here is unreal. You found the right place.

Stay strong --

Put your game face on. Suck it up. Go post in roll call if you haven't already.

And don't forget about the chat room.

It sounds like you get it and you're quitting for the right reasons.
