Are sunflower seeds effective in satisfying that oral need? What's the best method you've used?
the seeds have helped me quite a bit. So has eclipse gum, sugarfree candy, jerky. If you can get it, the fake herbal stuff helps with the oral fixation.

some I hear have done coffee grinds, mint leaves...
Seeds, gum, and butterscotch. I'm never without them. My son loves it.. I always have a snack in my pocket!

I don't have much time to reply. I'm trying to keep busy by cleaning house. And I'm scared to admit this because I don't want critisim but I am dipping right now. Not as big a pinch as I usually do, but I did screw up  :( I love the posting roll idea. Later when I have time I'll check out the welcome page and watch the video on how to roll. I'm going to flush the rest of my dip right now though.

I didn't want anyone to think I was ignoring them so I got on quickly. Be back later. Thank you everyone.  :D

Have you thrown that shit out yet? Come on, let's do this thing. Get to quitting!

I can't access chat right now, but if you really want to know what this is all about. Head on over there and I bet you'll find some help in making your decision.

Hello and welcome copegal!

I hope we haven't startled you too badly. I wanted to take a minute to explain the strong reaction you received so you can better understand the environment you are entering.

As bigwhitebeast said, this is a no nicotine, cold turkey, tobacco cessation site. So when you said you were going to have a pinch, it was almost like you stuck your head into an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and said, "Hey, is there where I go to get sober? Ok, just checking, I'm gonna go have a drink!"

I'm sure it wasn't your intention, but it was almost a taunt to us.

As diesel has demonstrated (like a bawse!) we take quitting tobacco VERY seriously here, as we should, since its life and death. Says so right on that can you stick your fingers in every day. This place saves lives, and we want to help you save yours.

If you choose to quit our way, you'll be placed in a group based on when you quit. For instance, if you quit today you'd go into the November group. The program is 100 days of no nicotine of any kind. If you reach 100 days, you'll be inducted into the quit Hall of Fame. It's called the November group because its members will reach the HOF in Nov.

Each day, you promise the people of your quit group and this site that you will not use any form of nicotine that day by "posting roll". You keep your promise for that one day, go to sleep satisfied that you kept your word and your quit, then repeat.

While now it may seem daunting, even impossible to think of being quit for 100 days, you can do anything for one day. Thus our one-day approach. To put it simply,

1. Post roll (your promise not to use)
2. Keep your promise
3. Repeat

That's how we quit. Quit with us and stop being a slave to a plant. Stop spending $1400 a year. Most importantly stop KILLING YOURSELF WITH TOBACCO.

Hope to see you in November, ask anyone questions and they will help you. Don't worry, we were all new here once, confused by everything from how it works to how to post, and just wanting to quit. We are here to quit with you if you'll quit with us.
So I quit! I quit for me! Because I don't want to die, life is so much better without nicotine, and I want my honor back. I want to keep my word. I want to be the man I intend to be, and have my actions demonstrate my integrity. I want to live my ideals. And I will, one day at a time.

Roll is the backbone of this site. Its where everyday you promise to stay quit. Go to the welcome center and it will explain how to post roll.

I guarantee once you vow no more dip for any reason and start posting roll, you will get more support then you could possibly imagine. But when you say "off to have a pinch, ill see you all tomorrow". Your "serious level" is not seen as very high. I honestly do hope you quit tomorrow...the right way. I and many others will quit with you and support you to no end.

Hope to see you back and SERIOUS tomorrow.

OK, lets rewind here a little. First you are welcome with open arms but this is a place for quitters so we do take a little offense when someone says "I am going to have a pinch".

We quit here cold turkey, no nicotine replacement, no nicorette, no patches, no none of that. You can use regular gum, candy, seeds, beef jerkey anything but nicotine so that means no smoking either.

So what do we do here? We help people quit by holding them accountable, we help people quit by getting them to hold themselves accountable. For starters we post roll call, this is your daily promise to not use nicotine for the entire day, the next day you do the same thing and post roll call again and make that same promise again.

Here is the welcome center index.php?showforum=13 it has all the directions for why and how we do things and most importantly there is a video on how to post roll call because it can be confusing at first. http://www.killthecan.org/roll/

Your month will be November 2012 because that is the month in which you will reach 100 days quit or what we refer to as the Hall of Fame. Here is the link to November index.php?showtopic=6793

Hi I'm Lauren. Been dipping since I was 15, I turn 19 next month. I had gone to dip when I decided I want to quit smoking. It helped, but then I was hooked on smokeless tobacco. I dip Copenhagen Long Cut in the bronze can, and its costing me 4 dollars a day to keep up this habit. 120 dollars a month. 1,440 dollars a year approximately. My boyfriend doesn't mind my habit, but its time I quit. I'm trying to convince him to quit smoking, but if he doesn't then whatever. Well I'm off to have a pinch, i'll be back on tomorrow. Goodnight  B)
"Off to have a pinch"?????????? You're not serious about quitting. If you were you'd say something like..."off to flush all my cans and post roll and will do so every morning. I hope I can count on you all for support when I struggle.". Unless you say something similar in the morning why even come back tomorrow? Why waste ours and your time? Quit or get off the pot!
I'm not quite sure how to reply, I guess I use the "quote" option. And it was my last one. I figured I'd start tomorrow brand new. I'm sorry you feel I'm wasting everyones time, but I thought it would be a good first step to say that tomorrow I'm starting. I was hoping I'd be received with open arms since the website said this would be a good place to talk to people who have been there. But I suppose you're the best welcome I'll get.

I assumed this would be a good support group to quit. Everyone I know is indifferent about me quitting or not. But yeah. Thanks for your help, friend.
