Hello
Just a quick question.
I am currently a dipper, plan on quitting soon.
However just wanted to ask around here if any current/ex dippers experience skin redness under your mouth in the area where you hold your dip?
I've been dealing with what a dermatologist diagnosed me with as "perioral dermatitis" which is basically a rash around the mouth. It's not even really a rash just a persistant redness on my skin where I hold my dip (I switch sides all the time)
However I think it's really something to do with the pressure of holding a dip inside your mouth causing the redness on the outside of it. I dip a lot, unfortunately.
I've been looking at various pictures of dippers on dipper groups on facebook and notice 9 out of 10 of them have some sort of acne/redness around of their mouths. I see it in a lot of wintergreen/flavored dippers, not so much with Natural dips- like Cope LC
Anyone on here ever experience such a thing?
Thanks in advance
I would follow my personal intuition on it and quit stuffing poison in my mouth.

I won't lie to you, you are looking at a trip through some serious fog, and unsettling time. But we have all been through it and we can help you get through it.
Don't be stupid! After the red rash you'll probably get white patches, open sores, receding gums, tooth loss, have gum grafts and keep right on flirting with cancer. What is there to think about? Quit NOW!!!

What happened to the discussion pages for the quit groups?
That was an experiment for the December 2013 HOF class - an experiment that we decided to not continue. The December discussion thread has been merged back into the December 2013 thread. Feel free to talk amongst your group or here in the General forum.

Thanks,
chewie

Turns out there's method to our madness:

Title: Quitting smoking using health issue-specific Social Networking Sites (SNSs): What influences participation, social identification, and smoking cessation self-efficacy?
Author:Joe Phua
Year: 2013
Publication: Journal of Smoking Cessation
DOI: 10.1017/jsc.2013.18
URL: http://dx.doi.org/10.1017/jsc.2013.18

Abstract:

Introduction: This study examined members of health issue-specific social networking sites (SNSs) for smoking cessation, applying Social Identity Theory (SIT). Aims: The aim of the study was to test the relationships between perceived verbal, affective, cognitive and physical intimacy on the sites, participation level, social identification and smoking cessation self-efficacy.

Methods: An online questionnaire (N = 252) assessed members of SNSs for smoking cessation. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), structural equation modelling (SEM), mediation analysis, MANOVA and ANOVA tests were used to test the hypotheses.

Results/Findings: Verbal, affective, cognitive and physical intimacy significantly predicted participation; participation significantly predicted social identification and smoking cessation self-efficacy; and social identification mediated between participation and smoking cessation self-efficacy. Active participants and lurkers differed significantly on perceived verbal, affective, cognitive and physical intimacy, social identification, and smoking cessation self-efficacy.

Conclusions: Health issue-specific SNSs for smoking cessation have a positive impact on members' smoking cessation self-efficacy. Higher perceived intimacy facilitates participation online, which in turn influences smoking cessation self-efficacy, with social identification mediating this relationship.
This is great. I was just inquiring about the level of involvement on this site and the likelihood of success the other day. I was wondering if KTC kept numbers for themselves. This is basically an answer to what I was asking about. Cool stuff.

Awesome on 84 man! I am at 65 days and I went from feeling awesome and everything was great to feeling like shit again, and having anxiety. This NIC bitch is some bad shit to still be f'ing with us this far into the quit. I hope all goes well with you and I hope to soon be at that 84 day mark and I'll be informed on what I might expect then too. Stay strong man!!

Will do brother. Ive gained 15lbs so far and lost 5lbs of it. Been eating better and running again. Stay away from the drink, I made the mistake of going from never drinking to drinking till buzzed every night. I guess Im trying to find something, anything, to fill the addiction I had to dip for the last 12yrs. The nic bitch sucks but gum and mints seem to help in the evenings.

  • Interests: Well I chose my family over the 2 cans of Copenhagen a day that I have been chewing since I was 15. I just turned 40 a few weeks ago. Playing minor league baseball didn't help either. After seeing several Dr.'s because of all sorts of crazy feelings I had after my quit I learned I have anxiety that seems to be a direct affect of quitting this SHIT! Thanks to the people who have affirmed that too me. (I never knew what anxiety was!) I will do this for my family! I coach both of my sons baseball team a 14 year old team, and a 12 year old team. My two daughters also are active! One is on a competition gymnastics team and the other is on a dance and cheer squad. My wife is amazing and they all had to deal with my sorry ass (the first weeks of the quit) attitude, temper, and sheer disrespect!

Day 84 here and this week has been the toughest in awhile. Morning after coffee I have craves but in the evening after supper its the worst. Was having 1-3 drinks in the evening but I had to stop that. It seems like I have to be addicted to something since I no longer have dip. Hope this passes soon cause Im sick of the craves. I will be going back to school in January and its hard to think with the nic bitch in my head.
