Question.

As my August quit brother are rounding the corner on step 1 HOF status I got to wondering about quit group data.  I'm sure it exists around here somewhere, but here is specifically what I was wondering:

What was the largest 1 month quit group?
What is the average size quit group?
How many people on average that have posted role fail to get their 100 days in?
How many total people have reached 100 days quit HOF status on this website?

Just curious.  I like to talk about this place and think some data would help me to be convincing to others that I try to make aware of the existence of killthecan.org.
Funny you should ask... we've never really compiled all of this data... until now.

I'm about to embark on a task I'm referring to in my mind as "Quantifying KTC". I'm going to be collecting this data on each quit group so that it's very easy to answer these questions.

Any volunteers? I'll need one person for each group who's willing to take up the task.

To answer your questions (off the top of my head):

What was the largest 1 month quit group? - April 06?
What is the average size quit group? - 30-50?
How many people on average that have posted role fail to get their 100 days in? - 30%?
How many total people have reached 100 days quit HOF status on this website? - 5,000?
PM sent, but I can get you anything for may 11.
I have kept a small eye on things and to me it appears that there is no where near a 70% success rate. In fact it looks more like 15% - 25%. Of course that includes all the people that post roll one time and don't show up again. I could be wrong though, just what the numbers look like to me.

Though a 15-25% success rate is huge compared to other methods of quitting.

The problem is not the problem.  The problem is your attitude about the problem.  Do you understand?

Oh that's great news! I figure in my particular group it will be easy since we have a spreadsheet. I assume that has been the case for a while now?

I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know who maintains our spreadsheet. I think it may be per034.

And 5000+? Wow. You deserve a nobel prize or something.

Stumbled across this article on SF Giants manager Bruce Bochy undergoing hypnosis to quit dipping:

Hypnotist helps Bochy and staff quit dipping

IMHO, I'm calling BS, but hey, if it works for him, that's great. What's worked for me, though...posting roll daily and keeping my word.
i almost missed this in the article:

"Not that the rest of the Giants are necessarily convinced. They razz Hayes because he has been seen smoking the occasional cigarette or cigar, or using the imitation snuff since seeing Paxson."
Quote
It was really strange," Bochy said. "There are so many triggers that you have that make you want to put a dip in. The following day, I did have an urge, not a real strong one. I said, Â’OK, IÂ’ve had my day off, now itÂ’s time to put one in.Â’"

But he didnÂ’t do it.

"The next game I did have an urge. The next two to three days I still had an urge, but it just wasnÂ’t as strong as other times IÂ’ve tried to quit," he said. "When I got past the fourth or fifth day, I was over it. I didnÂ’t crave it. I didnÂ’t want it. I was fine.
He probably had a cigar on day 4.

Now where have I heard that the physical urges are the worst in the first 3 days?

He's ninja dipping.
No one refers to it as an addiction. FAIL.
I agree. And what I think Bochy has gone through would be called...Cold Turkey.

In addition to the aforementioned "nobody calls it an addiction" fail, there's also the whole "Nobody is being held accountable for their quit" aspect as well.

Bochy is basically just relying on some quack and putting all his "faith" into the idea that he was hypnotized to not want to dip, but what is stopping him from being like, "OK, I know I was hypnotized, now I will unhypnotize myself and crack a tin".

Nothing about a support network or even how to battle through craves.
One of my "breaks" from dip actually began with a hypnosis session. It was the weirdest thing. I dipped all the way to the appointment, left the can of dip in the console of the truck, went in, got hypnotized, went back to the truck, looked at the can of dip, and wondered why it was there. My brain was telling me that I didn't dip anymore. Took me a few seconds to remember that I actually dipped all the way to the appointment. The problem is that quit did not have staying power, and the power of suggestion wore off in a few days.
Until these ass clowns discover and commit themselves to daily Roll Call...they will remain active addicts. Someone should send them a friendly e-mail.

New blog post:  Sleep Issues When Quitting Dip

http://blog.killthecan.org/2011/08/slee ... tting-dip/
Glad you posted that - I've been wondering why the hell I'm having such a problem with insomnia. Being that I'm 12 days quit it appears I'm in line with a lot of these folks. I literally was just told by my secretary that I look tired as hell - happens when waking up at 2:00 a.m. and wide awake.
Glad to have helped a bit!
