Howdy folks -
Just curious, couple of questions. I stumbled across another similar website called quitsmokeless.org or something like that (referenced by someone on this site)...it looked similar in that it talked about 100-day HOF and such...is it affiliated with this one? Like I said, just curious. Second, so who created this site and the idea? Again, just curious - whoever it is I think they are pretty damn smart. I'm 8 days quit today and in large part because of the support on this site. Thanks and have a great day!
Here's a little of the history that I'm aware of but certainly not complete. I'm sure many others can add more details...
A guy named Matt (I forget his last name) started a site called QuitSmokeless.org about 10 years ago to be a community of people who wanted to quit using dip. It was pretty much a free-for-all in terms of language, methodology, etc and was pretty hardcore about going cold turkey as I remember it.
Sometime in 2006 Matt decided he could not operate the site any longer and it was essentially taken over by one of the frequent posters, a guy who goes by the name Flavious Victor.
At this point QuitSmokeless began to change, there was an effort by some to clean up the language and make it more "politically correct". There was also 2 schools of thought regarding quitting and the purpose of the site...dip-free or nicotine-free.
Here is where others might be more helpful but it appears to me that Chewie and others started KTC because of that difference in philosophy. Today KTC kicks ass and the "new-age" QuitSmokeless site is withering on the vine. Go look at how many members are in each new quit group and this is a pretty good indication of the health of the site.
By my recollection Matt did a very good job with the original QuitSmokeless site and it was very much like KTC is today. I applaud Chewie and others who make this site possible. It's obviously going strong and I think that's a function of their leadership.
