Howdy ya'll. I'm new here.

I hope it is OK for me to post in the Cafe. My planned quit day is tomorrow. I've been planning it for about three weeks now. Today is my last day chewing. I'm very nervous as I've tried so many times. This time it's a bit different. I actually set a date, talked to a counselor about my plans and why I want to quit, and even started a 'quit chew' blog (http://chewquit.blogspot.com/) to motivate me. Then I found this site. It looks great!

I'm reading through the sucess stories and it is very inspiring.

I'm sick of having a disgusting mouth, wasting money, and lying to people. I'll post tomorrow evening to let you know how I did. I'm stocked up on nicotine gum.
This is exactly where you are supposed to post if you haven't yet taken the plunge and dumped your tin. We appreciate your respect of not yet posting in the quit groups.

Of course I would be remiss if I didn't suggest you dump that thing right now and post roll in The April 09 quit group. But in the end I do understand that there is some importance in setting a date. Just be sure to stick to it. It is WAY easy to come up with a new date, then another, and another......

Spend some time in the welcome section reading about roll call, what it means, and its importance to this community. That "little bit" 'winker' of accountability has helped so many here stay free from their addiction, myself included. Bottom line on roll, it is your solemn promise to not use tobacco for this one day. That promise is made as close to first thing everyday as possible. If you're a person of your word, then join us and start your fight.

Take a look at the What to Expect page on killthecan.org. It is a fairly accurate road map of the journey you are about to begin, unfortunately. The good news is that the ends are well worth the means. Not worrying about the "C", bad breath, yellow chew stained teeth, etc etc are just a very few of the awesome benefits of leaving dipping behind.

So welcome, you have found some of the best support available for beating this addiction. Let us know how we can help. BTW- the underlined text above are links so give em a click.
Glad to meet you and look forward to quittin with you one day at a time.

Gotta caution on sumpin in your post.....you'll get varying opinions regarding nicotine gum....personally, i have tried it and failed in the past (never in conjunction with this site)

If you choose to use the nic gum, that is your choice....you must use a prescribed plan with it tho....it can not become a new delivery system for nicotine...you will never win that battle. What i mean is if you pop gum to stop a crave....the craves will never end.....you are still feeding your addiction...just in a new manner.

If you have a plan with the gum to take a defined amount at a given time with a defined reduction to zero schedule......then imo, it is a tool......

Personally, i think it is better to nut up, go thru 3 days of hell, get it behind you and use all the tools at your disposal on this site.......They will definitely work and are working everyday.

I will definitely be here to post roll in the morning.......and i look forward to seeing you there in April 09.
oops. I did not see these responses prior to the PM I sent you. 11X4 and Mule have presented a much more literate and compelling argument thatn I did. Please ignore my ramblings and listen to these two gentlemen. they are masters of the quit and that Sir is NOT an exageration.

You guys are some tough SOBs.  I couldn't take that cold anymore.

I'm with Jester - hitting the upper 40's here in Colorado today and upper 50's by the weekend.  May have to break out the dirt bike or the golf clubs....

:):)

Mr. Brown - you are just spoiled :)
True enough this time of year, but come down here in August and you'll seriously wonder how people survived without A/C.
40's! 50's! I am jealous! this morning we woke up to actual -29 below with a feel like wind chill of -50 below...it was suppose to get up to -9 below for a high but didn't make it...now it is -24 below with a feel like wind chill of -43 below. good news is by the time I hit in the road in the morning we are supposed to be at -14 or so...another heat wave! Ha! you would think we were in Alaska or syberia!
I'd last 5 minutes up there. Here comes the next ice age.

Maybe we'll get some pheasant down here because of it.
We view ourselves on the eve of battle. We are nerved for the contest, and must conquer or perish. It is vain to look for present aid: none is at hand. We must now act or abandon all hope!
