Day two. I can't understand why something so stupid can be so difficult to stop. 'bang head'

I'm still on the first can of Rocky Mountain which tastes about like a dog's hind end (I'll assume). Chewing gum only works for a while, seeds make my mouth hurt worse than the chew ever did. Day 1 had some struggles, but I wasn't feeling depressed like this. I really really hate how my mind wanders into how I could just hop in the pickup and go buy a can. Just for today, Just one. I've tried several times before. I actually made it about 3 months, and was doing well when I decided I can quit it's easy, so I caved.... Second worst decision of my life outside of actually starting.

I started chewing freshman year in college. I was hammered and I took a bet that I could have a dip and not throw up. TUrns out I was right, but I really lost that bet. That was 8 years ago. All of my daily routines seemed so nice with a little dip. I've always been ashamed of it, I've always been afraid to lose part of my face. I'm finally quitting for myself, my wife, and my 9 month old. I'm actually going to do it this time.
That's great TWheezie. I also chewed for 7 years after. That was after years of trying to get others to quit in my life I finally gave in and one dip turned into 7 years of at least a can a day.

Day 2 is a bitch, but just keep focused on the task and before you know it the craves will start to decrease. Don't turn back now.

Hello everyone, I am new to the site. I am glad I found this site!! Here is my story - I have been dipping for 37 years, about two cans per day. I must say I have never considered quitting until now. I recently found out I was going to be a granddad, so what better time. It's been two weeks dip free! That does not sound like much but for me, it's a huge step. My wife is very proud of me and I have done really good with the cravings but I find the mental thing the hardest. She doesn't understand when I tell her "what do "normal" people do after eating? first thing in the morning? during the day?" You see, I always had a dip, I could eat with it, sleep with it, never spit so most people never knew I did it. But now that I have made it two weeks, it's a real challenge - a lot of praying, and talking myself out of buying any of it...
Hey man.... Congrats on making it this far! I am on day 3 of my quit, your story is inspiring!

Be sure to get in the quit group, we got this!

I saw on the blog back in September that KTC members could get coupons for a lot of the smokeless alternatives. I was wanting to grab a can or two of that hooch rough for a road trip I'm taking with the wife and figured if I could get a discount might as well do it.

Hey all I'm new here... I quit 10 min before the new year so I am 22 days today without dipping... I have heard a lot of people tell me that the first week is the hardest. It was hard without a doubt but it seems to be harder now than before... I have been using seeds like crazy. It helps a little but not much lol... I can do this it's sort of a bitch but I can definitely see the benifits.  I'm glad I found this site I quit with 3 other friends and I know for sure that 2 of them are back using again so my support system is relatively gone... Thanks for being here for folks like me!
Why not start an intro thread and join April quit group. There is a ton of help and support here. Read everything in the salmon coloured welcome centre.

Hi all!

Frustrated girlfriend here.  I joined this forum because my boyfriend's dip consumption has reached an all time high, and so has my tolerance! Instead of freaking out, I thought I would come here for advice.

First, I have broached the subject of quitting with my boyfriend many times. In addition to being annoyed, his excuse is always "when I'm done with school."  For him, dip has become a self-medicating technique to get through tons of homework at night. He literally NEEDS dip to study, which resulted in him walking through a blizzard to go get tins tonight.

For those of you who have been in that position, what alternatives can I suggest/have you tried?

Any and all help is appreciated, thank you all so much!
If you truly love and support him then accept that he is addicted to dip. Do not let him hide it from you.

The decision to quit is easy for most all dippers. Yes they want to quit. The ability to quit is something different. It has to come from within ones self to finally quit. No amount of bribes, nagging, money or anything else will keep a dip addict from dipping.

3 weeks ago I made that choice to quit and have succeeded one day at a time. I feel though as I am missing an arm or a leg as dip was part of my life fore 20 years.

Part of me does not ever want to dip again and part of me still wants nothing more than a huge pinch of Copenhagen in my lip right now.

Thankfully due to a supportive and very tolerant wife and KTC site and forums I am keeping my QUIT one day at a time.

Basically there is nothing you can do until he is ready to quit. This site does note endorse or allow any alternatives to dip that contain nicotine. They do not help anyways. Be patient, supportive and encouraging and when your boyfriend is ready we will be here to help.

Good Luck and God Bless

I am very sorry to tell you that your boyfriend is an addict. Plain and simple, he's an addict. I know, because, I'm one too.

I Quit 1,408 days ago, and I will say there is not ONE or ANY thing my wife could have told me to make me want to Quit before I decided it was time.

I'm sorry.

That's not the answer you want, but he will continue to dip until he makes the CHOICE to Quit.

You can suggest he comes here to look around. You can suggest he quits, but honestly, there is nothing you can do.

He will lie to you. He's an addict. It's what we do.

If you love him, you may choose to stay with him through this process, but if his dipping is a big wedge in your relationship, and you are as young as you appear....

...you may want to check the other fish in the sea.

Just sayin. This is a serious addiction. It's not easy, but it is a terrible, terrible addiction.
What is your major malfunction?!?!?!?!

Wow. Don't know what to say. Having chewed for some 32 years, if my daughter dated a chewer I would tell her to walk away rather than watch someone struggle with this addiction all their life. Maybe that's a bad answer but I'm viewing it through the addict's eyes. I can't trust myself to stay quit. My kids both tried chew - because of me. Thank God they don't chew now but I can't imagine how I'd feel if they did. You have to ask yourself whether you want that addiction in your life and, in the future, in your children's lives. He's gotta care enough about himself to quit. He can't quit for you. Wish I had a better suggestion for you. Good luck.
