The right decision is to not use nicotine. The wrong decision is a mistake. When it comes to nicotine, I damn well expect a 100% mistake free existence for me. I KNOW better. You know what? I expect a 100% mistake free existence from my brothers as well ... To lower your expectation is to leave the door open.
I think you mistook what the conversation was about... CAVERS. They have already done the deed... There is no going back, only going forward for them.
I knew someone would come in with a rebuttal to what I said because this conversation is sacred in these grounds.
After a caver has completely pussed out and sold off all of his/her dignity, they have but one thread of character left. What do they do with it?
As for REAL quitters, this conversation should mean nothing as the boats are burned and the caving will never happen. But where I may differ and strike a chord with others here is that I am willing to admit people who have not solidified their quit can make a decision that ends up a mistake. They may consciously decide to throw in a lip because they don't want to be quit anymore (planned cave), and realize soon after that they have made a mistake. This isn't some Q-Lite shit coming out. It is reality that many do fuck up because they get caught up in the emotion of quitting before they have decided to really burn the boats!
30 and J2B, both of you should be very familiar with this circumstance. Had it happened with our most famous caver (him coming back just a few hours later realizing how stupid it was), you would perceive it different than if he comes back in a year from now.
