In my short time here, I have been amazed at how many times the following pattern emerges:
1. user fails miserably multiple times trying to quit alone.
2. user find KTC and presumably sees all sorts of actual, no-shit, real word posts (no firewalls here!) that should clearly show that KTC believes in ALL types of support, not just the ass-patting.
3. The user really likes what he/she reads and decides to join the group.
4. The first time the new "quitter" is asked to explain themselves, the quit-failure whines about internet bullies, not having to explain themselves, and then says something along the lines of "fuck you, blah blah blah."

I mean....who f%ing joins a group like this without looking into the shit the site proclaims to be about? Without reading about what they stand for? Without trying to get a sense for what they do and how they do it? I did. I read for HOURS before joining. HOURS. Did these guys not read anything before joining? Or did they think the brutal honestly, no-shit accountability was for everyone else?

I absolutely lose my damn mind when a caver or a caver apologetic gets/gives kudos for "manning up and admitting it" or "having the balls to come back and face the music."  Don't get me wrong, there are some people whose pride is all they have, and would never fess up or return.  But that's pride fucking with you.  That's the kind of pride that probably fucks up other aspects of their life. The kind of pride that convinces you to punch the MMA champ in the mouth, "cause you're not a pussy!"  That's not "balls".  "Balls" are what it takes to make the decision that you are DONE!  NO more, even when every cell of your body is screaming WTF!, just one already.  The caver comes back for one reason, and one reason only:  They understand that consequences of not coming back are probably worse than the consequences of coming back.  There are no "balls" required.  Is it "ballsy" to have a doctor reset a broken leg?  NO, at most, you can get kudos on how you handled the procedure.  Same with returning cavers.  You can get kudos for humbling yourself and airing out your issues and lessons, but to get kudos JUST FOR returning?  No frigg'n way.

Bravery and Accountability to yourself and your word is telling the Nic Bitch to go FUCK herself in that moment of weakness. Burning bridges. That's the difference between a little pause in nicotine usage and quitting. Pausers see a bridge standing, and feel comfortable. They get a warm fuzzy knowing that if this quitting thing gets really tough, there is an escape back to a life they knew. The pauser values the comfort of a life they know (even if it's a messed up addict life) over the unknown life free of a nicotine.

So there's this story that everyone in my small town is talking about ...
A couple of days ago, this woman is working out at the fitness center. This is a small town, so there are no huge mega gyms that have crowds 24/7. When this woman arrives the place has a few others working out. An hour later, she is the only person left as she finishes her workout. As is the case with most fitness centers, the front desk is right by the exit, and is manned by an attendant. On the way out, the lady glances over and sees that the employee is jacking off behind the desk. True story (well, true as far as I know. edit- the story made the local paper)

What ACTUALLY happened immediately following is not really important to my point. A discussion on what MIGHT have happened is important to my point.

Here's a couple of my possible scenarios:

1. The woman freaks out, calls the cops.
2. The woman calls the owner and demands that the employee be fired immediately.
3. The patrons tell the attendant to jerk off whenever, wherever he wants, with the exception of the front desk.
4. The woman complains to the other patrons. The patrons of the fitness club get together and decide that the woman could just simply look the other way if she doesn't like it. The attendant jerking off is none of her business, doesn't effect her ability to work out, and she is probably just looking for an excuse to stay home and eat ho-hos anyway.

Zam, making me laugh lessons my stubbornness. I have thought about this discussion for a couple days.

I am quit. It is my fault and I chose to quit. I am to blame. However, I blame kTC for educating me, I blame my family, friends and kTC brotherhood for support and demanding more from me than I thought was in me.

I am an addict. I am to blame and it is my fault. I chose to dip. I would like to also recognize and blame UST for leading me down a path of disgrace. I blame them for not giving a shit about me as a customer and must recognize them for creating an addict for a customer. They were like Draco to appolo creed....if he dies...he dies.

What I realized is that we are both semi right. To be fully right, we both have to acknowledge that all parties are to blame.

Use whatever motivates you Mark, we all vary somewhat in that. UST certainly has done no one any favors save their shareholders and CEOs.
I will second what Zam says, many large corporations that make products you use every day do not care at all about an individual consumer. More of them than UST have poisoned citizens purposely. They all do it for the same reason, because it is profitable and they can get away with it.
I agree Sam, the concepts of individual vs peer accountability as well as today vs forever are difficult to talk about head on. We tend to think they are diametrically opposed, but they seem to coincide well for me. Forever is the purpose, today is the practice.
