Day 2 is beginning, and all I have to say is I love college!

We had an awesome day yesterday (and don't worry...we have some blog posts to come shortly!).  We made a lot of new friends.  Luckily, our reputation has preceded us and people are very curious about us.  Many quit programs are starting to focus on smokeless, and they are realizing that NRT's are ineffective at best with this process.

It's starting to heat up, so I'll see you guys later!  Make sure to stop by chat today.  We might make an appearance!
SO?!?!?!

How'd it go!?!?!?
Day 2 is posted here on the blog, and day 3 should go up shortly.

The summit itself was amazing.

Beautiful campus, beautiful state, and tons of people out there fighting the same battle we are. However...

Many of those fighting the battle with us don't know how hard it is to quit. The educational literature is based on prevention and message, while the studies stop at the decision level. We need to change that. We need to get out our message as to what it actually takes to be quit.

We need to craft our message into this academia crowd.

Impact=effectiveness X Reach

(I totally stole that equation from a doctor there.)

Our message is of quit, and we are the most effective program out there to quit smokeless tobacco. We extend all over the US. We should never be content with anything less than success, and we should be available to anybody out there that wants to be quit. We can't be drowned out by all of the "theories" out there on how to quit when we know the secret already.
In the end I Surrender, I and I alone accept that I have and always will have a Nicotene ADDICTION. It is my choice to quit, but I can't do it alone. I get to go down this path one time, I want to do it right. I recognize that my word, my integrety to you is on the line and is only as good as my actions. Caving is not an option in this plan-Eafman 7/11

I am not cured. I will quit one day at a time. I will continue to do what works. Posting roll everyday. To do otherwise would be foolish on my part. You can do this-Ready 12/11

To overcome your addiction you must comprehend what it means to fail-Razd 3/12

Theres a lot of people that come here, especially vets, that WANT to be reminded that they are addicts.-Tarpon 6/12

Just as a building starts with architectural drawings. Your daily quit begins with a promise.-Scowick 2/13

Here and now, focused on today, minute by minute, whatever it takes, I promise to all my bros and myself not to become a negative stat and stay quit!-krok 1/15

I want everyone to be quit. Even the assholes.-Probe1957 1/18

Ignoring history or erasing history fixes nothing and leads you inevitably down the same path.-69franx 04/30/2021

So I have a question... and maybe this is me putting the cart before the horse a bit.  I'm in Day 4... everything is manageable-ish thus far, but the only reason is probably because I am packing in Smokey Mountain like it is my fucking job... and by manageable i mean a royal fucking pain in the ass that makes me want to go head first in a log of skoal....but that is not for me anymore... QLF...

Those of you that utilized the fake stuff in your quit... When did you finally start weening yourself from the fake stuff? Or did you ever stop using the fake stuff....
I am on day 20 of my quit and I went through 4 cans of the fake stuff. I ran out of SM around day 5, felt a little panicky but never made it to the store to get another can.

I was pretty heavy on Beef Jerky and cinnamon gum for a week or so but pretty much nothing now.

I guess the desire to have something in your mouth fades away with time. I'm shocked that mine went away that quickly because the only time I didn't have Cope in my lip, was when I was asleep.
Don't worry about it! I used for nearly 100 days steady and then occasionally after that. But that's just one old fart!
I didn't use fake for the 2-3 weeks 'cause "I'll do this like a man". Big mistake. Stupid. I then decided my quit was much more important than my machismo and starting buying SM by the box. At some point around 200 days I saw a discussion about fake dip on the forums. I couldn't even remember the last time I had any SM, much less if I still had any laying around. The point? Years from now you will not get dressed, drive 20 minutes to the convenience store in a blizzard at midnight because you ran out of Smokey Mountain.
I used it daily for the first 150 or so days. After day 150 my useage slowed and on day 250 or there abouts I stopped using it altogether. Opinions vary on fake usage but I found it to be very helpful.

My first fear was I would change one for the other, but there is nothing in the fake to keep you hooked and you will get tired of it eventually. If it helps you then go for it...

STAY QUIT
Greg

So I was walking past a local liquor store here in Maine, and I see a sign, “We carry Jake’s Mint Snuff!” I said, “Whhaaaaaa???????”

So I went in and asked if they in deed, had some. The guy behind the counter, you would have thought I told him he won the lottery.

“You BET we do! I got two flavors!”

I told him I didnÂ’t want any (I stopped using the fake a couple years ago), but I was curious as to why he had it?

He looked at me quite puzzled, “Why?!?! Well, it’s a healthy alternative to tobacco!”

I said, “Damn Straight!” and shook his hand.

We stood there a few minutes and I told him I quit a few years ago, and I use mints every now and then. Sadly, he said they donÂ’t sell much, but we did talk about other alternatives. I didnÂ’t ask if he was a Quitter or not, but it was just nice to see a local business guy trying to help push something other than tobacco.

Â…at a liquor store, no less!

Day 1 is in the record books. Things starting to heat up and Waste is already busy recruiting hookers. We attended some informative seminars on how the tobacco companies market to their target audience which has been expanding in recent years. It is no longer just the rough and tough white male. It is now being heavily marketed to white collar workers and women under the guise that smokeless is an alternative when you can't light up. They say they aren't marketing to children but the adds we were shown tell a totally different story.

Please keep the chat room staffed today as we hope to drop in some today. Quit for today from Missoula
