OK - here's the latest... host was working through some of our requests (to make things work the way they did previously where the most recent post will show up at the top of the page). That's not the way the software (and most forum software these days) are intended to work, and it caused some issues (as many of you have seen).
So... we've reverted to the standard for THIS board (where topics will read from oldest to newest). At this point ALL topics / forums should be working like this.
If you go into PREFERENCES BOARD SETTINGS TOPIC VIEWING PREFERENCE make sure this is set to GO TO FIRST UNREAD POST IN A TOPIC.
With this setting, the FIRST time you go into a thread you'll see the oldest thread... on subsequent visits, you'll jump to any post that's been made since the last time you visited.
We'll continue to work through the topic ordering... Thanks for your patience during this transition. We anticipated these types of issues with a massive move like we've done.
I know some people don't like or understand the change, but it comes down to a couple of things:
- Security - the software that we were running was 10 years old. There were a slew of security gaps, etc. that have been fixed here.
- SPAM - we were getting on the order of 40-90 SPAM registrations per day prior to the move. Since we've migrated we've gotten 0. We take SPAM very seriously and the mod/admin team work very hard to keep it off your screen. This has been a huge win for the team.
- Speed - these boards (after the initial move) are MUCH faster than our previous version.
- Scalability - as we continue to grow (we're not slowing down) we needed a platform that would handle us... we've got one.
- Mobile / Tablet - previous board was simply not set up to handle the development that was necessary to handle mobile traffic, apps, etc. This one is. Once we get these initial issues out of the way we're going to focus on the mobile experience (TapaTalk, etc.)
