Cant be said any better than that PKY.

After 631 days looking back, all my other quits, all those fake quits: half-hearted, half-assed, pathetic attempts were for everyone but me.

August 15th 2017, I decided to quit for myself and found KTC 2 days later. Today I'm just as vulnerable as i was on August 8 2015, vulnerable to cave, vulnerable to taking a pinch from a friend. B

But now I've built this wall. My wall started with a brick labeled 8-17-17, my first post in my group. Now, my roll posts have built the bricks high, and I can use them for protection, support, brotherhood, helping a newbie, accountability, whatever it may be.

Are you ready to build your wall? Mine is getting taller every day, i mean EDD - one brick at a time

Hey fellas,

I'm on day 9 here. I'm a hockey player and have been dipping for about 5-6 years now. I try quitting almost every summer but as soon as the season rolls around again I always find myself getting back into it. I don't think I ever wanted to truly quit before, just kind of hoped to kick the habit. It's always hard when teammates around me have a tin and ask if I want one. I've been doing pretty well so far, but I have had some troubles sleeping. I would tend to dip while watching tv right before going to bed, so could me quitting possibly be a reason for this? It's not that I have troubles falling asleep I just keep waking up after ~3-4 hours and can't back to bed. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, and if anyone else has experienced this just wondering when this symptom started to fade.

Really appreciate the site, keep on killing the can!
Welcome and congrats on deciding to quit!

Weird health issues associated with quitting are nearly universal. Everyone goes through some iteration of mouth/ jaw pain, sores, aches, fog, anxiety, etc. Sleep issues are extremely common as well. It's hard to say exactly when they subside, but the worst physical symptoms usually wane after a month or so.

The most important factor in sustained success is your outlook and fortitude. Essentially, why are you quitting? Do you feel like some outside pressure is making you do it, or do you desperately want to be free from your addiction. Right now, for yourself, for good?

If this is about some vague feeling that dipping is bad, or if you're doing it to please someone else, you're about guaranteed to fail. Sorry, but it just is what it is. However, if this is all about you and you are willing to make real life changes and sacrifices, you can quit successfully.

This site can help you do that. At KTC, we make a daily promise to stay nicotine free. We keep that promise and do it again the next day. One day at a time makes it manageable. Forever is overwhelming, so we focus on an achievable goal. If you really want to quit, go to the "quit group" page, find August 17 (Aug because that's when you'll be 100 days clean - it will make sense eventually) and post your day count and promise for today there.

With the tools available here, you can overcome any challenge or trigger - including hockey season.

Let me know if I can help.

Hey guys, Im new to this site. I started dipping 11 years ago. Im 27. When I was in the military the addiction got stronger. I recently tried to stop dipping. During the day I have been good at controlling the urges, but the minute I have a beer or two the impulse to dip is too strong. does anyone have any suggestions. Does the fake dip work? thanks for the help. I need to quit this shit. Not worth it.

I think you kind of got to the heart of it right there. If you truly want to quit, you're going to have to make some very real life changes and sacrifices - especially early on. Addiction changes your brain chemistry. To overcome addiction, you're going to have to retrain your brain and that will be extremely difficult.

You need to decide how much you really want to be quit.

I'm a huge proponent of the fake stuff... it literally saved my quite, and I dare say my life.

There are some here that will tell you it's too close to the real thing and that's a valid point as well. You'll have to determine for yourself if it's a help or a hindrance. Hopefully it'll help you get past those craves.

If drinking / craving is an issue, I'd STRONGLY suggest you lay off the sauce until you've got some legs under your quit. I can't being to tell you how many cave stories have started with, "I was having a few drinks with my buddies..."

If you're looking for some fakes check out this page: www.killthecan.org/fakedip

If there's a specific brand or flavor you're looking to emulate let us know and we'll point you in the right direction.

I've been chewing for three years, about 2 cans a week. I know this is unhealthy, but i hear so many people say oh thats nothing I'm doing a can a day or a can and a half a day. Sometimes ill go a few days without dipping, but mostly its 2 or 3 dips a day. I have certain triggers to dip such as fishing, golf, or studying. I'm planning on quitting in about a week because i am moving to a city where dip is about double or triple the cost i pay now. I also want to rid myself of a habit that most find disgusting. I never feel any withdrawal side effects when i stop for three days or so but i always get that urge to do it after about 72 hours off of it. When i quit what are some ways to combat that urge. Fake alternatives don't do much for me, and the reason i do it is for that relaxing side effect. Any advice would be appreciated.
When you start may I suggest that you get all of the can(s) out of your house before you go to bed. Any I mean every little bit must be gone. Make sure every can is empty!

If you can go 72 hours without a craving you are doing good, when you get that craving remind yourself how bad it is for you. Look up some of the ingredients and the side effects, check out some of the experiences other members have had. Also you might want to try Sunflower Seeds.

The one thing I have to say is the peps here have been though it and will help you out!

btw - The fake alternatives never did anything for me either, except bring on a trigger.

Good Luck
KEEP the QUIT!!

Pain is a normal side effect of quitting. It's most likely that it's nothing serious and will go away. That being said, a trip to the dentist might be a good idea, just to make sure. This should also help with any anxiety you might have about long term damage.

But what you're describing is very common and should pass.

I'd encourage you to find your quit group and start posting there, you will find instructions on that in my previous post.

Hey buddy, this might be tough to read, but what you're describing is an addiction. Now, it seems to not be as developed and ingrained as it will become, but it's an addiction nonetheless. You might only dip in certain situations right now, but as your brain becomes more reliant on the nicotine, you will find more excuses/ situations and your intake will increase - regardless of the price tag at your local store.

Your "stop for 3 days, start again" cycle is extremely common. Unfortunately, what you'll find is that after these stoppages, you'll likely go back to using even more than before.

Luckily, you found this site and we can help. We quit for real here. Cold Turkey, every damn day. Go find the forum called "quit groups" find the August 2017 group, you'll find instructions on posting "roll." If you are really ready to quit and you get rid of all of your tobacco products, post your name and promise not to use. Do that same thing every morning.

It sounds silly and can be confusing, but the system absolutely works. Make a promise, keep the promise, one day at a time. Everyone in that group will be within a few days quit of you and will be able to help drag you through.

Reach out of I can help.

New to the site, I wish I'd found it earlier! 20 year dipper quit 2 times recently. Made it over 6 months each time but caved for no reason. I like the idea of roll call. This time I truly HATE nicotine and I'm done forever.

Never quit quitting!! That's my 2 cents
Welcome Grey Beard! This site will provide you all the support you need. Looks like you will be a part of the July 2017 Quit group. Join the group and post roll every day. We have all been slaves to the nic bitch and understand what you are about to go through again.

Alright day 4 here and I feel like I am mentally handicapped. Literally a task at work which should have taken me 30-40 minutes, took me almost 3 hours. I know that this is part of the fog and the brain rewire process but holy shit! Please someone tell me I'll get my brain back?!?
You will get it back - it might be a few days but you will get your ability to function back.

The cool thing is, the brain you get back won't demand that you pump chemicals into it every few hours.

But yeah man, I'd recommend informing co-workers of the quit and just let them know the next week or so is going to be atypical.

It will be worth it
Thanks pky for the re-reassurance! Trust me my colleagues already know, no hiding my lack of brain power today.
