I saved this poem one year after 9/11. I read it every 9/11.

How My Life Has Changed (Hilary North)

I can no longer flirt with Lou.
I can no longer dance with Mayra.
I can no longer eat brownies with Suzanne Y.
I can no longer meet the deadline with Mark.
I can no longer talk to George about his daughter.
I can no longer drink coffee with Rich.
I can no longer make a good impression on Chris.
I can no longer smile at Paul L.
I can no longer confide in Lisa.
I can no longer work on a project with Donna R.
I can no longer get to know Yolanda.
I can no longer call the client with Nick.
I can no longer contribute to the book drive organized by Karen.
I can no longer hang out with Millie.
I can no longer give career advice to Suzanne P.
I can no longer laugh with Donna G.
I can no longer watch Mary Ellen cut through the bull.
I can no longer drink beer with Paul B.
I can no longer have a meeting with Dave W.
I can no longer leave a message with Andrea.
I can no longer gossip with Anna.
I can no longer run into Dave P. at the vending machine.
I can no longer call Steve about my computer.
I can no longer compliment Lorenzo.
I can no longer hear HermanÂ’s voice.
I can no longer trade voice mails with Norman.
I can no longer ride the elevator with Barbara.
I can no longer say hello to Steven every morning.

I can no longer see the incredible view from the 103rd Floor of the South Tower.
I can no longer take my life for granted.
I quit with my fellow Drug Addict ^^^^^ Sco knows.
The poem is powerful and really personalizes the loss. I grew up about 30 miles out of Manhattan, and my home town lost close to the same number of people on 9/11. Several were friends or related to friends. I know I still choke up seeing the posts here, presentations on the TV and other social media sites. In PA where I have lived since '87, my VFD was on standby in for the flight 93 crash site covering the areas of other VFD's that had responded to the site in Somerset, PA. This day stirs much emotion and deep feelings of patriotism. God bless that lost or gave there lives that day and all who serve and have served this country domestically and abroad in uniform. I pray those left behind will find some comfort in the tributes of the day.

There is no I in The Herd

Truth 1: The reason we joined the KTC Herd in the first place is that we failed to quit on our own.

Truth 2:  Your personal addiction story is not that special.  Many of us could not quit on our own and if you believe you are a finger-banging special needs snowflake you have not spent much time in The Herd.  Our personal stories of addiction have so much in common, that The Herd rolls its eyes when you tell us the reasons your quit is different.  You are not a special butterfly.  Welcome to The Herd.  As a proud member of The Herd, I offer a few rules to get you down the road to Quitville.

First, Post Roll Every Damn Day.  One cannot be part of The Herd… if one does not join The Herd.  If you do not know how to quit, join The Herd.  If you know how to quit, be a helpful part of The Herd.  If you are going on vacation, join The Herd via a text.  If you want to have fun, join The Herd.  If you work crazy hours, be the first to join The Herd just after midnight.  If you want to take a dump on that quitter grazing over there, take a dump.  The Herd will laugh.  Poop on the head is funny.  Have fun in The Herd.  Grazing in The Herd every day is important.

Second, know that you are a nicotine addict.  For Life.  That means Forever.  Nicotine has so screwed up the wiring in your brain that you can never sample nicotine in any form without fully engaging every nic synapse in your body.  Big Tobacco ruined your craniac and nothing can change that.  You are Herd de facto.  The day that we admitted we were an addicts was the day we controlled nicotine instead of nicotine controlling us.  It does not make quitting easy; it does mean we call of the shots.

Third, focus on Today.  The nic bitch hunts every day.  She waits patiently.  She knows weakness.  She will thin The Herd.  She is strongest when you are vulnerable.  Always join The Herd and remember you are an addict.

Forth, help another quitter.  Your quit is strengthened by it.  The Herd gets stronger.  You get stronger.

Remember, there is no I in The Herd.
Big hitter, the Lama.
Flowing robes .... Stunning!!

Bringing it as you always do!

Love it. Truth, and I love being in the herd. Quit on!
Great inspiration!
Dammit Brett! Stop Pooping on my head! Good stuff Sco! We love your words of wisdom.....so we got that going for us. :D
'worship'
 goo stuff here
Always the right words at always the right time. Thanks.
ok... moooooooooooo
"CLOSE THE DOOR. In my opinion, it?s the single most important step in your final quit. There is one moment, THE moment, when you finally let go and surrender to the quit. After that moment, no temptation will be great enough, no lie persuasive enough to make you commit suicide by using tobacco."

Step on up to the 13th floor, ScoDaddy. Wait until you see the hot tub! Better use it while you can before G gets up here and contaminates it.

1. Quit.
I can do this... It's so simple! 'bang head'
24 hours??!!

Count me in
Sound fun! I'm in.
I'm in. You're a real leader. Thanks!
What about today? What in the world is on my list for today??

1. Quit.

Everything else is just details.
1. quit. no poison today period
Simple and to the point. I can do that.

Quit
I quit today and am so glad my money will not support UST and its promoters! I am not financing a terrorist organization that recruits children. I am not contributing to stores making self space and supplying a product that kills 3 million people a year. (World wide) I will not let a can of lies rule my actions and choices. Not today, I quit! You have my word.
